So a few thought I was nuts last year when I had posted about when the Ex braked all by itself.
As a reminder, the scenario was I was merging onto the highway, a very busy on/off ramp next to each other.. I gunned it to merge in and the vehicle in front of me slammed on their brakes. I didn't even see it till the collision warning system went on and slammed the brakes on (abs engaged) and brought me down to almost a complete stop (with my foot still on the gas). If I recall, Cory replied (without searching for the post) that the Ex does not brake on it's own but will "charge" the brakes. I know for a fact that my foot was not on the brake and that we all got thrown forward into our seatbelts.
So this brings me to last night. I was traveling about 50mph and taking an exit off of the highway. This particular exit is a left side exit, 45mph speed limit as it just slowly curves off the highway I'd say 15-20 degrees into a straightway. I had my foot on the gas maintaining the 50mph I was traveling, my left foot was 90 degrees to my thigh, planted flat on the Husky mat, heal almost touching the seat. I just want to make it clear that without a doubt, my foot was not on or near the brake.
Unexpectedly the collosion warning system went off (no car in front of me) for I'd say about 1 second.. maybe 1 1/2 seconds. Once it went off, the Ex slammed on the brakes, we both got thrown into our seatbelts and the seatbelt tensioners locked preventing us from going forward any more then the big jolt. I also felt the Ex get a little jittery.. as if the ABS kicked again like the last time I posted about this.
My wife looked at me and said "did it just brake again on its own". I said yup.. and then she went off about electronic issues (I posted yesterday about the Terrain Management Fault error that went off twice - it was working when this happened).
So although there is no way of attempting to duplicate this without taking the risk of slamming into something.. This does confirm in my eyes that the Ex does apply the brakes in an emergency situation.
Call me crazy if you want.. But this is now twice that this has happened. If one wants to go the defective route, how the heck do you even attempt to bring this up to the dealer??
