I have a 92 Ford Explorer XL. When I go to stop, I hear a loud clunking noise on the passenger side. I was told from a friend that it may be my c-joint or ball joint but I have no idea what that is nor the difference.

I have noticed that behind the passenger side underneath the truck, there is a rod with a cap-disk looking thing that looks torn out of the socket. I can try to get a picture if it helps.

Can anyone help?

Welcome to the Forum. I would guess that the thing that you say is torn out is a sway bar link, and is what is making the noise. It is easy to replace and inexpensive. I have included a photo with some names on it as to what some things are. The sway bar link is the one going up and down next to the yellow shock in the photo.
Hope this helps.:salute:
