1998 OHV Preventative Maintenance

Should I get another oem breather tube (from oil cap to intake tube) or will a rubber hose suffice?

I used rubber hose on my van.

I forgot the dipstick. Do I have to pull the upper intake back off?

It runs better than it did, I think one of the plug wires isn't right on the driver side, there's an exhaust leak on the driver side manifold, and a code for an O2 sensor. No more surging and it stays running and not hot (according to torque pro). However, the temp gauge on the dash didn't budge with a new sensor installed.

Now to make $ on my day off. 4 wheel brake job on. '15 Jetta

Soo. Rather than post more threads about the same vehicle... Would a 5r55e from an 08 ranger 6cyl work? I'm aware of the extra sensors on the 08, but it only has 100k miles, compared to my over 215k 98. Also would it be worth swapping? Since the explorer is legal, I've found that it slips at around 35-40, and 50+. I haven't managed to get it past 65 yet.

i do believe case wise they are the same. i am not sure if they are wiring difference,s but i do recall a few. depending on price it would be worth swapping. though it begs why not swap another 98/99 etc trans in? i dont recall any major internal changes.

I was thinking less than 1/2 the mileage and the updated valve body

I went to the dentist a couple towns over. When I got back the explorer was dumping water onto the ground from the passenger side. Reservoir is full. Hoses seem dry

I'll have to find the leak when I get out of work, it was a lot more than a trickle. Almost like a hose was disconnected. I was driving between 35-60mph depending on where I was.

true, and they did have an updated EPC iirc. but there are also shift kits to further make the 5r strong iirc that can be added on 98

I found the leak. Should I do all 6, or just the leaking one?

I've recently acquired a Light Blue 1998 Sport 2wd, automatic, with the 4L OHV for $500. It's has well about 240k on the dash (still about 50k under my daily driver).

Since it's not my primary transportation, I have time to do what I need/want to with it. I worked on it a little bit for the previous owner. Plugs and wires, have less than 1000 miles on them.

I plan to keep the OHV, not swapping, unless I find a really good deal on a 302+trans. I also know that I will replace the fuel filter as I have no clue when or if it's been changed. I might clean the injectors (while removed, that that in tank crap), and will do pcv valve.

Mechanical issues that I know about:
1. Idle at over 1k, whistle from front of intake manifold (vacuum leak)
Should I just do the intake gaskets, or re-gasket the engine entirely?
2. Transmission shudder after about 45mph.
I haven't even looked at the transmission dipstick.
Low fluid can mess up the clutches and contaminate stuff, block passages in the valve body, etc, I know. Should I just do a filter change, maybe torque converter? Or should I just yank it and rebuild it?

Cosmetic issues: dent in passenger door. Roof or seal leak in cargo area. Driver seat motor and padding suck. Obviously, I'll fix the leak, and get the seat situated. Not sure if I care about the large dent in the door, it still works as it should. Considering on going to the JY to find a sunroof, where I'll probably get seats, unless I steal my father's out his mustang.

What do you think?
my 99 it was the rear side window that was leaking tried sealing inside fail. but ran it for yrs with carefully putting electrical tape 3/4 inch between meta and trim worked replaced tape 1x a yr dark blue with black trim you barely noticed tape fuel filters cheap on driver side underneath on frame roughly under back seat on 2d. my s10 filter was way more expensive. but find where vacuum leak is for sure before planning major work and with transmissions check fluid level and condition befor puting 1 more mile on it

Guess who F'd up. After getting it running, I should have added antifreeze and not just straight water. I came back Saturday from a week out of town. Apparently it got cold, Lowes around 17 at night. Cold enough for the water to freeze.
When I got home, I figured I'd crank it up and let it run for a little while. It didn't start and had a new squeak. I got to thinking, pulled the radiator cap off (frozen). Saw no water, just ice. I figured my water pump froze as well and that might explain the squeak while attempting to start. I decided to move it into the sun, realized the thing is heavy with low air in the tires, I ended up pulling it with my civic into my back yard facing the sun. But I did see the new freeze plug I installed a while back sitting on the ground where the ex was. I cranked it up yesterday long enough to pull it into my car port and left it until today. Put my garden hose into the radiator and turned it on. I have more leaks, it looks like more freeze plugs from the difficult view I got
