FAKRWEE Navajo Roll Cage

No offense intended to the shop as their work is pristine, but there are some things missing from that cage that should have come along for that price IMHO.

Hey Cory glad to hear from you. No offense taken. That's what this board is all about, to learn and share.:D

I know you have the sunroof and don't know what you wanted for the cage, but there should be at least one, if not two, spreader(s) in the center of the cab section of the cage going from the A-pillar hoop to the B-pillar hoop.

We talked about that but I decided that living in So. Cal. my sunroof was more important. The spreader is only good if you go endo, or a small rock comes in thru the top. I Know guy's who have done endos in Score without the spreader and walked away. I don't drive fast and I'll take my chances with the small rocks.;)

Also, why is there only one diagonal cross-brace on the B-Pillar hoop? If you flop it on the drive's side the cage will be less likely to deflect in, but what happens if you flop on the passenger side?

In 10 years of wheeling I've only had 2 passengers with me on hardcore trails. 1-My cousin Ralph who some of you know and now lives in Florida and just bought a Rubicon, and Peter Weber who after our last trip to Rubicon disapeared and was never heard from again. So I don't worry too much about passengers anymore. Weight and ease of getting to the back is more important to me.

i agree. if you flopped on the pass side and had a pass in there they could be hurt. i'd look into getting another cross bar to make an X and not a \.

agre with Cory

If you flop on the passenger side and the cage crushes than the cage was no good to begin with. Check out Score legal pre-runners and you'll notice most of them have \ diagonals. If the Navajo was a convertable that would be another story.

I got ya now that th fact that you don;t have many pass. so by that fact why have the extra weight like you said. The lighter the better!

Looking Good Tom!!!!!:D

Gotcha...just making sure everything was kosher. I'd hate to see someone think they were getting something and then not have it function as intended because they missed something.

That's what's great about this site. We have people of all different levels of expertise and ideas. All this info will help people installing their first cage decide what they want vs what they need. :redexp:

No paint? Future Rust?

Painting is a pain in the arse. I talked with Rick and He gave me the solution. He applies wd-40 with a scotch bright pad ever so often and it looks great. I already have some rust because I live near the beach. I'll take some before and after pics when I work on it this weekend.

You could probably apply some paint with a brush as opposed to spraying it on, that would make it simpler right?

I tried that but the problem was I couldn't avoid brush marks. I think with the wd-40 it'll look good, we'll see.

Rust in just 3 days before applying wd-40.

After applying wd-40. Looks great. let's see how long it last with the salt air and humidity.

Good Luck Tom! The "oiled" look is nice. I don't think it work here in Va. Rick has the advantage (one of many) of living in "broody nose dry" Az.:)

Hi Paul, thanks. Long time no hear from you. How's your rig going?

Looking Good Tom,
I want one now, one question is the glovebox functional doesn't look like it.

Functional. Opens and closes like normal. I'll post a frontal picture with it open later.

Tom, my rig is still sitting here. Same O, Same O. Nothing new yet. So while I am waiting for things to happen, I got bored and went out and bought a new sports car to play around with. :D

Ummm, yeah so one of my friends rolled their truck yesterday. I know it's not an Explorer and I know it's not a rock crawler. His was a very capable Ford Ranger built for prerunning. They both walked away but here's a thread to maybe help those of you thinking about doing a cage...

That was nasty Kris. Was it Sean from ORR board that they were talking about in that thread?

I wasn't on the trip so I don't know for sure. I don't think it was but it could've been cause I think he does konw some of that group of guys. Might want to ask him for sure.

The photos got emailed to me last night and I was shocked!!! I know the next truck I'm going to be building will be caged before it even rolls out of the garage.

On a side note also ranger related. I saw a ranger that was stuck sidehill in sand. It got pulled out by a samari that hooked the tow rope up to the up hill side of the front bumper and pulled at an angle downhill. Flopped him right over onto his lid from a dead stop with no speed involved. His cab looked almost that bad also and that was just a slow dead stop roll in sand...

Just things to consider for those of you out there!!!!
