my 96 eddie bauer has a 'gas cap' light on the dash, my 97 XLT doesnt.. although the 97 does have a 'fuel reset' light, whatever that means. It has never come on, i can see it in the dash when light comes through the sunroof. strange.

Advance sells a cleaner made just for MAF sensors, its made by CRC. evaporates quickly and does a good job. How much it helped i cant be sure of.

something that kills the motor abruptly or something that wont allow spark or fuel usually will not trigger a check engine light. you should be able to have your module tested although most tests are biased bc as i mentioned b4 modules are temperatue sensetive.
