May have screwed up here. I changed the transfer case fluid with Mercon V instead of Mercon which the owners manual calls for.

Have I done any bad damage to the transfer case and should I drain out the Mercon V and replace with Mercon?

Why does Ford call for Mercon V in my tranny but Mercon for the TC?

i am not sure why ford did this. just drain and refill it with regular mercon and you will be allright

I agree, drain and refill with the correct fluid ASAP. I think Mercon V is a bit too slippery for the T-Case.

Thanks for replying. Guess I'll drain it tomorrow and replace with Mercon. Hopefully I haven't done any permanent damage.

Relax. The difference is not critical in the transfer case. Change it and relax. The major differences were in modulated clutch applications, like Torque convertors and auto transmissions. Yes, change it if you like but don't fret.
