What The ???

I don't know where you guys are driving, maybe on Sundays with grandpa at the wheel of your next victim. I don't think that my or a stock "X" could beat a 95 body style eclipse. As far as a mustang or a Z28/SS NO WAY. My "X" weighted in at 4500 lbs. Mathematically impossible to beat a 3000 lbs car with the same HP. Can't be done.

Unless the driver does not have a clue how to drive or wanted to see if you where dumb enough to take off. I do it all the time. Sucker someone in to racing and then not race.

Fastest street cars. I have a friend that as the worlds quickest eclipse it runs 9.17 in the 1/4 mile @ 152 mph(Brent Rau)

Also a friend of mine (Brian Carpenter) as a 1500 hp Mustang that he runs on the street all summer on weekends. last year he was at low 8's with 850 hp at the wheels and 10" tires.

Off the line!! Yes people with an "X" will probably beat anything off the line. We don't have the power to spin the tires more than a chirp. My Mustang will spin them until I get off the gas or feather the clutch. we are beating a dead horse. I bet I could beat a STOCK neon though or how about a focus at 130 hp. I have a VC2000 I will see what my "X" will do. I bet it in the 18's which a new Honda could kick my butt!

Unless we get together we will never have what we need to go fast or have towing power. We need headers a full exhaust system and real intake other than crap on ebay. sure it gives you 3 hp yea yea!!! a chip well maybe 5-10 hp if your lucky. MAF but no throttle body and a pore intake design. no cam no heads=NO POWER. If we had JEEPS we could have all kinds of aftermarket parts. But I/We LOVE FORD.

Sum it up WE HAVE SLOW TOYS did you want something fast well get a saleen "X" then. I have something fast I wanted a mud toy to pull my sleds that would catch a look or two as I pull in to the drive. I love it.

I raced a Ford Mini Van and had my A$$ handed to me!!!!!!!

Amen to that last one. Everyone thinking that they're beating quick cars and stuff with their relatively stock explorers are in a fantasy land. You might beat some guy to 45 or 55, heck I do it all the time, it's just that those people aren't racing you. Face it, Explorers are fat and slow. People with real "fast" cars don't see Explorers as theats and therefore don't race them. (obviously I mean that as just most of the time. Sometimes I piss someone off and they kick my butt for real!)

Before I bought my 93 sport I owned a top of the line 96 GSX Eclipse. They are fast I beat a couple of stock camaros, but don't even try and race the Z28. I stayed close but he took off and left me at about 75. They are cool cars but the tranny and engine blew on me at 120, In the middle of the nevada dessert. That was the end of that car. More to fix then the value of the car.

I agree, Explorers are pretty slow. This is the list of cars I have raced in my stock X. And yes, they were racing b/c my friends and I race for fun all the time.
*95 Dodge Caravan v6, Its pretty even. The explorer will take him to about 45, then its the van by a little bit up to 60.
*89 Chevy Beretta GT v6-Got my ass handed to me
*93 Ford Thunderbird v6-Beat him every time, too much wheel spin on his.
*89 Saab 9000 Non-Turbo-Beat it but thats due to the horrible tranny in the Saab.
*00 Honda Accord v6-Not a good idea to try and race on of these as they do 0-60 in the mid 7's.
*95 Probe GT v6-Raced when it was wet out, put the X into 4wd and took him for a little bit but once he got traction, I was all done.
*95 Jeep GC 5.2L v8-This was not even close, the jeep had AWD and smoked me so bad, he was 3-4 car lengths in front of me by the time we hit 60.
Enjoy the racing guys!

My 0-60 time is about 2 weeks.

Are you pleased with this devise? Can you give us a brief discussion on its use?

Thanks....

I win this contest. A couple weeks ago I "raced" a 2000 Audi S4 and toasted it for about 15 miles until this idiot decided to pass on a blind turn and nailed a telephone pole, went through that and into a tree. The car exploded right infront of me, it was f#%&ed up! The cars speedometer was pegged at 95mph at the time of impact and everyone in it lived! That means I won right?

Did that make you proud? How would you have felt if there was a serious injury? Are you now going to put a little Audi decal on your fender like the fighter pilots do when they shoot down an enemy plane?

Dude Julie is like all over this board you guys! Every board I see has her name on it! Power to the women in X's! nothin I love more than a chick in a truck! Pardon my politicaly incorrectness

When I first started reading this sentence, my immediate reaction was: Hey, wait a minute, I'm in that age group (actually past). But then I realized that you're saying we're just smarter. ;)

With all this talk about 0 to 60 times and beating somebody off the line, one thing that the younger set on this thread (board) might want to consider. I don't see or hear of very many top drag racers below the age of 30 (or maybe that should be 40). I don't follow NHRA but I have the distinct impression that just about any champ in the various classes is way past 20.

Oh, by the way, 97XLT, the guy in the Audi S4 didn't race you for 15 miles. He probably just couldn't be bothered or didn't have a clue what he had under his right foot. Which is more than likely considering that he ran off the road in a vehicle that holds on to the pavement pretty good.

Here is a description of the engine:

'Starting things out is a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. Sporting twin intercoolers, dual-overhead cams, five valves per cylinder, variable valve timing for the intake camshafts, and optimized combustion chambers, the engine generates 250 horsepower and 258 foot-pounds of torque. Audi has designed the engine to provide much of its power low in the revband. Consequently, the S4 makes quick work of freeway on-ramps and passing maneuvers. Audi gives buyers of the S4 a choice of transmissions; there's a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission.'

The zero to 60 time is 5.5 seconds, the quarter 14.1.

I don't think we need to go into discussion if an Explorer (even modified like Alec's) has any hope of keeping up.

Troll doesn't count here since he did a complete engine transplant. LOL

i hate to say it but julie has a very valid point

Listen, I have a Limited with V8 and AWD. I actually beat my sisters 99 durango but she squealed, the AWD really hooked, and she can't drive for S**t. It was alos the first day she bought it and she wants to race again but there is no way that I will.
All of this talk about racing Mustangs and camaros, forget it. If you beat them they weren't trying. The only reason you take them off the line is they spin. My 87 GT had 225 HP stock and weighs about 1500 less than we do. I'll tell ya that car is sick, but in the rain it is crap. So race one in the rain. In mine I could shiftout of 2nd at 60+ MPH haulin a** let me tell you. As someone said before we are made for 4x4, traction, and pullling not speed.
I would like to do alot to my Limited but the same mod that would give you 5 HP on an Explorer would give you 20-30 HP on a stang. The only good thing I have going for me is that the 5.0L V8 can be modified endlessly, but the weight we will never get rid of.

Even I will admit I can't hold a candle to an S4. However, I can kinda keep with my friends Passat. He has the 1.8T, heavily modified. Bigger turbo, intercooler, blowoff valves, intake, head, exhaust.......now he has about 280 hp at the crank and 280 tq (vs my 260-320). He also weighs a bunch less. Off the line I win, he pulls me 50-80, then I pull him to 100. After that, he pulls away fast.

This was on a deserted rural road in full daylight close to some private land of mine. See street racing thread in the polls forum to yell at me for being stupid.

If you are so fast, why not have a go at someone with some horsepower?

Simple: I usually lose to cars with over 300 hp or over 330 tq. Simple really, if a vehicle that weighs less than me has a lot more power, they're gonna win. However, I find it cool that I can beat lighter vehicles that have about the same power that I do.
