Hey guys

I drive a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport 4x2. Today when I turned on my 01 sport it sounded pretty fine. But when I gave it a couple of revs like to 3,000 RPM It sounded like it was going to die out on me. So I decided to do it again and see what happend it still felt like it was going to die.

But my explorer is working fine its just when I rev it to 3,000 RPM It sounds likes its going to die.

So guys is there anything wrong with my explorer or what.

it was on park it was when i was warming up the explorer

If it sounded like a "miss" it is the governing of the system and totally normal.

I am assuming it might be my timing belt but or it might be something else.

you have a rev limiter when your in park so you don't over-rev the engine and break some internal pieces. everyones stops when you rev to about 3k rpm. my sport does the same thing.

when u have it on park and u rev it to 3,000 RPM does it make a noise like the engine completely shuts off and then comes back on again.

Were all four tires on the ground when you rev'd it?

sounds like youre just hitting the rev limit and thats totally normal. i remmeber when i got my first car i thought the same thing when i did it the first time. if you hear odd noises thought you should look into more and try to find where the noises are coming from. then we can help more.

If you wear a tin foil hat, you will fool the rev limiter and you can rev all the way to 3500 RPMs. Honest.

When in park, your PCM regulates RPM's to a certain level, it will cut out above that. Nothing is wrong. Seriously.

The tin foil hat trick works though.

Just for the sake of agreeing--

Yes. When you are in park, you cannot rev the engine above 3,000 RPMs. It may cut out or "sputter," but it will not shut down.

But dude--with the price of gas, I recommend getting an engine block heater or something instead of GNRing it. :D
