Howdy! I'm new to this forum (OK reading for a while, just registered yesterday!)
I hate to start out with a question, but I'm kind of in a pickle. I tried the search, but perhaps my google-fu isn't what it used to be.

I'm wondering if the 16" rims from a 2001 will fit well on a 2004 EB. I ask because I desperatley need new tires, and I'm kinda not wanting to drop $$$ right now. There's a couple reasons for that, one is that I'm pretty much broke, the other is that I'd like to do a RB lift in the not too distant future (still need to read much more on what that entails.)

So I have a buddy at work with some pretty good 16" take-off tires he'll give me, and found a guy on CL with some 16" Explorer rims for fairly cheap. If I can do this route, I'd certainly be saving some scratch for a better solution down the road.

Any input here is certainly appreciated!

Thanks

they will fit but the offset is a little off. They will stick out just a little, nothing too obvious. But I think it looks cool. There are pictures on here somewhere of a guy that had 2nd gen wheels on his 3rd gen and looked fine.

Meant to say that Im not trying to tell you to not get them. I think they only sit about 3/4" or 1" further out which is a look most guys want when they buy wheel spacers.

Turns out the wheels are from a 2000. I assume it's the same story though?

By sticking out, is it safe to assume there's not going to be a clearance issue? What's the biggest tires folks have put on 16" rims on a 3G?

same story for 2000 rims

Not sure on max size but something tells me its in the ball park of p265 70's

Thanks for the input, folks... I'm going to get the rims today, and some 245/65r16 tires with only a few thousand miles on them. I don't know what brand yet, but I don't really care at this point. If they're really the original tires from his '04 Silverado, I guess they're Duelers.
Anyway...

Any of you have any experience getting the TPMS sensors working in new rims? I've read a few posts about it, but I'm specifically wondering if you've had any bad experiences with small tire shops, and/or if I should just go to the dealer. I need to get a new sensor for one of the wheels anyway. Turns out they don't like fix-a-flat. Who woulda thought? ;)

Well, the guy with the 2nd gen wheels flaked, so I guess I'm sticking with the stock rims. Bums me out. I got all jazzed on that look!
Anyway- I'm going to go with 265/65/17 Geolanders. At least as of right now!
The other drag about sticking with the stock wheels is the lack of cheap tires in 17". With the 16s, I could go with the Pep Boys house brand and save a bunch. Would have been my preference, since I would still like to do a little lift in the future.

Thanks for all of the input. I like this site!

Check you local junk yards. 2nd gen wheels are not that expensive...

Do you have an LKQ close by? THe one by me is a U-pull yard and aluminum wheels are $20 each. There is usually 2nd gens there.
