ok gang, My "Service Engine Soon" Light came on today. I took it over to advanced auto and the there was one one code being thrown... Misfire in cylinder 6. My 1st thought was the plug or the coil has gone bad. I pulled the coil (1 screw) and the plug to see if there was anything obvious going on and I really only noticed that there was no dielectric grease on the boot, and that the plug (pictured) did not snap or click into place like the other coil plugs did.

I really have 2 questions...

Can I replace one plug and one coil, or should I replace all of them?

Is there a way to replace the clip that plugs into the ignition coil?

Thank you for the help :)

I recently had to replace a single weak coil myself that was causing a misfire. You can also replace that plug. They are about $10 on rockauto.com. You can pick up a cheap coil there for around $15 too, but make it a temporary fix. I'm ordering a set of MSD coils in the near future to replace all of them.

Did you pull the plug to see if it was fouled in any way?, but replace both to be safe, todays cars are like that now where one plug or coil can be bad and that's all you need to fix.

OK, update...

I got the plug to click into the coil, and it seems to be running better. I went to advance auto and the guy told me they weren't allowed to clear the codes. Does unplugging the battery for like 10 minutes work on the newer trucks to clear the codes?

That'll do. Maybe swing back by there and pick up a can of electrical contact cleaner. Then spray unplug and spray/clean all your plug and injector connectors.

I have the same problem ...but at cylinder 7; I'd changed the spark plugs (in all cylinders) and the coil 7 for a new one, but the fail remains. I went to the autorized ford service dealer, but their diagnostic was that i have to replace the PCM due the fail is not the coil neither the spark plug neither the coil cables, they say that the misfire is a consecuence of an alternating signal missing from the PCM. Do i have suppose that every time a cylinder fails is a PCM issue?...someone have the same problem or find the solution to something like that?

Thanks in advance! (ford explorer 2008, 4.3L V8)
