so i have a 07 ranger that i bought (not 007, an different one) and this wont engage into 4x4. the lights for both 4hi and 4low come on, it will go into 4low as well. i had to change tires on it today, while the front was off the ground i spun the front tires to see if the axles would turn (they did, as well as the front drive shaft). after doing some reading, this shouldnt have the pvh hubs in it, so i cant figure out what it can be.
HALP!

T-case shift motor?? Just throwing out a guess. I realize you said both lights come on...
I don't even know what t-case the later models use, is it still a 1354?

yea, i'm ruleing out the motor just because the lights come on, and it goes into 4 low. as for what case, i know its the same as a 01-03 sport, and first gen sport trac.

found the problem

Okay, so, what is that, and what is wrong with it?? Details please!

my bad
the motor is working fine. was able to see the fork inside engage when put in 4x4 (could see it move looking in the full hole). both hubs are fine. so i pulled the case and took it apart (well, i didnt take the case apart, my buddy did that knows more about them then i do) and two gears have started striping. if you look close at the bottom picture the tops of the inside teeth are rounded. the top picture, that gear slides into the bottom gear. the teeth on the top picture on the outside have also rounded off. we could also hear it clicking when it was in 4x4 with the rear tires spinning, and the front tires locked with the brakes on.
my buddy said he has never seen that style of gear before (he was a shop foreman for ford but that was over 10 years ago now, but he's still pretty smart at it). according to the info he has, one is a lockup hub (ford basic 70164). the other is a shift collar hub (basic 7100). now what i also want to know is are all 1354 guts the same (if they are electronic) or are they different? for one of them, ford wants $250! this is from once again a 07 4L ranger. also, can anyone also tell me if one is available after market, or is this a dealer only item.

After some searching, it seems that both of those parts are used in almost all Borg Warner T-cases. I found it in older 1354, and in 4407 cases. I would ask around if anybody has a blown junk t-case and see if they can send you the part.

UNLESS..... you already have a case hanging around, like I'm thinking you might, :D

Here is a link to a website that has exploded diagrams of almost every T-case used. Tons of easily obtained info here.

thanks greg. i found that site earlier, but wasnt sure about it because when i click on 1354 case's, it said from 86-97
