How to: 1.5" body lift for less than $50

Prefix for threads which are instructional.
Thank you Kazer, I'm about to heat the pucks of the front bumper and the ones that are behind the front seats... I just have the "B" and "E" bolts loose so far.

Should I heat only the puck or also the end part of the bolt?

by pucks im referring to the body mounts, just so theres no confusion. i soaked the top of the bolts on the bodymounts with liquid wrench and heated the bottom of the mounts. for mine, i had to get the mounts hot enough to where the rubber began to melt and smell horrible.

this tool worked wonders for holding the body mounts from spinning

Thank you for the clarification Kazer,

That tool looks very handy, I wish I can have it right now :(

Heating the "pucks" worked great, I have loosen bolts B, C, D and E... I'm just fighting against the front ones, I almost burned them until it start smelling bad and I stopped it. No luck yet but I will try to get a bigger tool to stop the spinning on the mounts.

I just installed a F40 yesterday before start working on the lift, so this job has to be done today so I can go and celebrate fathers day in my lifted X with a pretty good sound...

:salute:

i heated my back two body mounts up untill rubber was dripping from them. i had a boiling puddle of liquid wrench and rubber on the floor...

just remember, im not an expert, just a pollock with a propane torch

EDIT: whats an f40?

Flowmaster 40 series... :D

Ok, I might follow your action of burn the mounts until they start dripping rubber. I also have the tourch right now and I'm start to frustrate with the front mounts, those are the only ones that I haven't been able to loose.

I've been asking my neighbors for a bigger pipe wrench but no success... here in Mexico the guys that sell gas in tanks usually have big pipe wrench so I'm also trying to find one of those guys right now but nothing yet... :p:

oooooooooooooooooh. i feel dumb. is the mount spinning or do you not have enough torque on the bolt?

It's the mount spinning....

I'm heating them again and I will see if after 5 more minutes they start loosing...

Nop, no success yet... I'll go to home depot and see if I can buy a bigger pipe wrench or the tool that you sent...

Thanks for all the help so far... :salute:

Unfortunately my weekend didn't go as I expected, I'm still struggling with the front mounts...

These are the tools that I've bought and tried with no success...

I'm about to get another bigger pipe wrench but if you have any other advice, I'd appreciate it...

Here is how my front mount looks now after several times under heat and frustration...

The top metal part of the mount is the one that keeps spinning, I've been holding the plastic part with the vice jaw grips and it works fine but the metal part keeps spinning...

Any comments would be very helpful...

Hold the metal part its threaded so your gonna have to keep that from spinning... I have not not my BL yet so if im wrong some one tell me PLEASE lol

gamecooks is right. youve got to hold the top metal part thats spinning. the plastic/rubber thingy is just a bushing i believe

I'm still stuck with one of the front mounts :thumbdwn:, fortunately I have loosen the right side, which is the side that I'm loosing first but I can not start lifting the car if the other mount is not loose enough, right? :D

I'm thinking on having everything lift except for the left front corner, lol because of my frustration... :p:

I'll keep trying and post some pictures once it's lifted, I hope it's soon.

sounds like somebody needs a gym membership! lol IM KIDDING! What problem are you having, the mounts still spinning?

Jajaja... I'm starting P90x again so I hope that helps...let's wait 90 more days and then I will try the BL again...jajaja

hey man I know that it sounds easy and believe me, I was like pff I will do it in one day but now all my friends are laughing because I have almost 3 days already and nothing finalized yet. The worst part is that my X is my daily driver too but at least a have my old wife's X that I'm using right now...

The problem is the same, the top metal part spinning even after I heat it constantly and also used a lot of WD40. Lack of tools is the main reason about why I haven't been able to finish it.

Tomorrow i hope everything gets better...

im doing my 3" on saturday went out and bought the oil filter vice grip like previously mentioned, my money is on that to stop the spinning, im going in hoping for the best but expecting the worst... go out and try to find that tool its VERY cheap

so will this only work on third gens .... ? if so i think i may figure out how to on my first gen. im worried ill still need a steering extension though .... whats the word behind that? you have to disconnect it, but it'll go back on? thanks fellas !

That oil filter vice grip is the way to go.

FoFo if you have a friend with a welder have them tack weld a piece of rebar onto that upper metal puck so you can use it as a handle to keep the thing from spinning.

Thanks Ronin and gamecocks, I saw the oil filter tool and it looks like it will help a lot but I couldn't find it here and I will cross to US until this afternoon. If I don't have luck this morning, I will ended up buying one of those. Do you know if that can be found on AZ?

About welding the rebar, it is also a really good idea, unfortunately I haven't found a welder yet...

I really appreciate your help buddies, I haven't lost my faith that I will be driving my car soon... :D
