1996 starter rebuild

Hi guys,

I have a 1996 Ex that I am having to tap on the starter to get it to work. I am getting ready to pull it.

My questions are :

1) What usually causes this condition ?

2) Has anybody had any luck in taking them apart and cleaning them up ?

3) do they make a rebuild kit for these things and if so where is the best place to get them ?

I have another vehicle to drive for now so time is not a issue, But the $114. that Advance wants for a new starter is.

Any advice is welcome...

Check Rock Autos price in the vendor forum. Even at a 114 bucks it's not worth the hassle if you've never rebuilt one.

You could clean up all the connections on the starter and see if that makes a difference.

Add some online discounts like the $30 off $75, etc and you can get that price lower.
