Oof, I was towing a heavy wood storage cabinet (big guy, about 2'x5'x7') down the interstate in the Mounty today and it's really windy... started smelling burned trans fluid while climbing a hill. I slowed down and made it home fine, but after I parked, the trans was too hot to touch -- way hotter than the diff. I knew the input shaft bearing was on its way out, but I think it may really be cooked now.
I haven't been able to find a 4x4 M5R2 in the salvage yard lately, so I may just have to pull the one I have now to rebuild. It's going to be a bummer to have the farm beater/tow rig down for a while though.
