Alright since I'm going up in tire/rim size I want some rear discs to help slow this heavy ******* down. I would be up for a front upgrade also if there is one but for right now I would like to convert to rear discs. Please let me know what is available for our vehicles. I know there is universal kits for the 8.8 and 9" but is there any specifically for the explorer?

:) this is covered often.

There are upgrades for your first Gen front brakes, limited options but you do have options.

Gen II rear disc brakes will bolt on

I wonder could we increase our brake performance by simply adding a more powerful vacumm booster or electric booster pump?

more powerful how? like larger volume?
You could use a hydro boost system from a superduty, but that would be super overkill.
The best way I have found to upgrade the sotck brakes is with better friction material, keep the rubber lines in good shape, keep the calipers in good shape, keep the knuckles and slide pins clean and lubed, slotted rotors if they make then for your axle, etc.

Of course I am spoiled with the Explorer brakes on the BII, driving my 4 door Ex I was not impressed with the braking performance, but with carbon metallic pads, etc its probably live-able. Plus the Gen II's have a few more options up front for upgrades, even the sport trac rotors would be an inprovement I am sure.

I was watching one of the car shows, and they had an electric brake booster pump. As I recall the electric pump would provide a greater pressure than the stock vacumm booster. Now, theoritcally more pressure more force on the pads, greater stopping power. It seems to me that if all you had to do was replace the booster to increase brake performance then it would be a realitively simple and inexpensive way to upgrade the brake system.
