2001 XLT 4WD Lift Kit?

Yeah. For hunting a locker is a good idea , since hunting season usually means soft ground and possible snow. It'll make both wheels grab so you don't spin, get stuck and worse damage the trail or field. I'd stick with torsion twist on front to clear 31" tires, Monroe coilovers in rear for about 2" lift, and a rear lunchbox locker . You'll do good with that, it's what our Mounty is running now.

You can always go larger, but the above is doable for 1200 dollars including tires.

OUTSTANDING!!! Thanks for the info! Not even sure what a "lunchbox locker" is, but I'll find out! Good stuff!

lunchbox lockers are basically drop in lockers. normal selectable ones require setting of backlash etc in the diff. lunchbox ones replace the spider gears in the carrier, so it saves on labor and cost there. i would guess w/ labor a powertrax no slip would be about 800, but a selectable with labor maybe 1500. the only disadvantage is compared to a selectable lunchboxes lock when power is sent to the wheels, as opposed to selectable, which you select when they are on.

as far as ground clearance, lift, whether suspension or body will not get you there. they only raise the body, frame, and/or engine off the ground further. the lowest point (the axles) will stil be at the same height if you dont put bigger tires on. thus bigger tires are what ive you clearance, not necessarily lift.

if you dont want to rehear, i wouldnt go above 33s, but even 33s and the stock v6 is sort of anemic. without a re gear, where i would go for a daily driver would be 31s or 32s, torsion twist, shackles or OME leaves, and then either nice limited slip clutches or lunchbox locker

PERFECT!! Great info! Thank you for your time!

It’s called a lunch box locker because mechanics could install it during lunch break and they can almost fit in a traditional lunch box

Also the term “Lincoln locker” refers to welding the spider gears typically was done with a Lincoln welder during lunch break

Just some interesting tid bits about the lingo we use

another big factor is which gear ratio and motor you have. gear ratio can be found on the driver door sticker

for ohv

355s- iffy, i would go 30s max
373- 31 maybe still, but a bit tall so thats ifffy
410- 31s or 32s maybe

for sohc

355s- 31s??? might be a bit tall though
373- i like 31s
410s- 32s- 33 maybe (depends)

v8

373 (the inly option)- 31 32 33 is iffy

the iffy ones it depeneds on how much passing power you want or if you tow etc

all subjective and jmo

Great info! Thank you for your patience! Which number tells me gear ratio?

d4 which i believe is a 373 LS. cool! do you have sohc or ohv? i think 31s would work well for you crank the bars put shackles in the back or OME list springs like i did or both and then spend the saved money on a lunchbox locker ot good limited slip good tires... as for the rest.................... go to cabelas :) itll be gone soon enough

VIN decoder says SOHC

VIN Decoder shows SOHC but no gear ratio
ok thats fine since you have 373s if you look on the door sticker under axle thats on the bottom part of the sticker.

so sohc with a 373 ls. same here!!!!!!

loving the setup with the TT shackle & OME (only went OME since the original leaves were giving out), stock LS (need to upgrade clutches), 31s

id guesstimate in parts for my setup + the LS clutches you'd be in say...

TT- 0
shackle- 100
OMEs-500 (keep in mind the OME for some reason comes with no bushings?)
31s- 1200?? (depends)
alignment- 100
LS clutches- 200 i believe from ford racing (the carbon fiber ones) or for a lunchbox locker (which for hunting id go with is 500)

soooo about 2100 or 2400 id guess depending on if you go for a lunchbox locker or clutches.

id then spend the money saved (since this i think will get you through most hunting spots) on a winch bumper and winch, or some other sliders or other goodies.

Good advice!
