I have a 2002 Explorer with 126K miles.

At 100K, the belt, plugs and wires were replaced.

The vehicle is parked outside, and in the mornings, it sounds like a steam engine when it is up and running. It takes about 10 minutes of driving before the sound fades. You can hear it both outside and inside the cab.

I have read that it could be anything from the IAC valve to a blown plug.

Any other suggestions?

Can you drive the car when it is doing it? If it is a blown plug you will have little to no power and barely have enough power to move. If it was a plug it should sound like that at all times.

I would check your IAC and EGR systems. Also check for any signs of an exhaust leak.

Because it only does it when cold and stop whens warm makes me think its something that either shuts off when its warm or when it warms up it makes it expand and close the "leak"

The car drives fine. There doesn't seem to be any loss of power. I also physically checked the plugs and they are intact.

I am not getting any trouble codes with a scanner.

How can you test the IAC and EGR systems as well as check for an exhaust leak?

Thanks.
