Thinking about a 2003 s/t with 101k , do the 2003's have the timing chain issue like the earlier ones ? thanks for any and all input

No, the timing chain issue was mostly a job one problem, aka, early in the 2001 production year. I happen to be one of the lucky ones that had that go wrong.
They're good engines. If taken care of it will last a long time. I don't think the 4.0 has a whole ton of power for its size nor is it the most efficient engine but if you do some preventative maintenance it is a very reliable engine. Should get 200k easy. I am way late doing the maintenance on mine and am not easy on it and at 150k it uses no oil and runs as good as when i got it with half the mileage.
