2008 explorer 4.0 SOHC V6
Hi All,

This is my first post in this amazing forum, this is a great source of info

I live in Dubai and I just got a 2008 explorer 4.0 and I really like the drive,

I wanted to improve the engine performance without touching the stock engine and I guess this would be mainly on the intake and exhaust systems with ECU tuning maybe???

Please help with me your thoughts on how to the most out of the 4.0 engine and put more power on the dunes

Appreciated

Just remember that the stock transmission is the weak point. It's working at it's max capabilities as it is. Any more power you add to the motor will shorten the life of the tranny.
Like with any other Ford engine that is used with other applications, it may be worth checking some Mustangs forums. They also used that engine in the past. And the Mustang aftermarket is huge.

PS: The view in the picture is breathtaking.

Thanks guys, will definitely do check the modified and mustang forums

Hi Shaker,

Im from Abu Dhabi, owns XLT 2007.
The 4 litre makes enough power. Transmission is weak and notorious for problems due to wear and tear. Better not to try power improvements with stock transmission.

If you are enthusiast, (visits sharjah scrap market frequently etc.) , We should meet up. Would be interesting. :)

Thanks Aslam

The thing is I used to own VW Touareg with a 3.6 which produces 280 HP, but the off-road capabilities are weaker

And yes, let’s meet one day, I used to go a lot to the sajaa Sharjah scrap market, do they have stuff for explorers there?
