2012 rear doors won't open from inside

I've searched and found this a common problem with older Explorers, but nothing for this gen. Changing the childproof lock settings does nothing. At first, the right rear door worked; now neither do. I've only owned the car for four days. It has 134k mi. and is otherwise in very good shape.

Won't open from inside. They open from the outside.
Fortunately, the dealer will fix this for free. I'll report on the results.

Loose/detached cables that operate the latching mechanism. They tightened them and replaced clips. Probably a pretty easy DIY job after you get the door panels off.
