2015 Explorer - Speculation / Fact

Since the 15th falls on a Saturday, the Order Guides will be available Monday morning the 17th.

Does that mean we will not know what the changes are until 3/17? That of course means it will be too late to order a 2014 in case the changes aren't significant. Why even think about a 2014? I'm thinking price increase and no initial incentives....

Anyone heard any news?

Nothing from my end, they wont release the Order Guide till the 17th.

Unless someone leaks it on the internet.

Holy leak already folks! Is Ford turning into Apple in terms of secrecy? :)

OK, Sport fans...... For 2015 - not much changed... No HID's (dammit!); power 3rd row seats and color coded door handles..... oh, and a fifth color....

I would have expected a few more things this far into the life of a model. Like I posted above - LEDs in the headlight housing or for the foglights as DRLs. Maybe painting the bottom body color. Perhaps only offering this on the Limited and paid option on other models to make a few more bucks. Perhaps other wheel options - again to make them a few more bucks.

I think the body design looks great so it does not need a front facelift or remodeled taillights, but a few goodies would have been nice. Not really doing anything does not make much sense from a marketing or financial standpoint.

I actually think the chrome handles look great on my white platinum so I see that as a downgrade.

An order sheet wouldn't show any changes to the body or interior.

Did you get a peak at the Order Guide or is that 2nd hand info?

Sourcebook. I do not think there are many body changes. Nothing significant.

Trailer Hitch is now standard on Sport as is 3rd row PowerFold seat. 2nd Row PowerFold and tumble buckets are now optional on either Sport package.

Deleted colors: Kodiak Brown Metallic; Sterling Gray Metallic and Sunset Metallic.

I see it as standard on the Sport trim only. Why do you say it isn't?

Because the order guide shows it as optional. It also makes no sense that it would only be standard on the Sport and not the Limited at least.

I guess we'll see next Monday when the order banks open up. The sourcebook dated last month says it's Standard. I agree, it's a little weird but I think they treat the Sport a little different....

Order guide confirms that Towing package is standard on Sport. Heated steering wheel is part of 401 package now.

If someone can tell me what to do, I can post the order guide up here for you guys. Not many changes, just a few cosmetics. Base now has same alloys as XLT, sport has two package standard and body color door handles it also gets magnetic metallic as a color. XLT gets a new appearance package with 20" machine aluminum wheels with painted pockets and suede seats.

New colors are :
Magnetic metallic, bronze fire metallic tinted clear coat and caribou metallic

Very basic stuff. A lot of times this many years into a model there will be a facelift on the front and rear with headlights, taillights and a bumper change, but I guess they think they sort of already did that with the Sport with color changes, slightly different grill, better engine, different wheels and they feel the design is fresh enough as is - and compared to other SUV/CUV's out there I'd say it still has a fresher and more modern look than most.

As someone who just bought a used 2011, I'm happy because the car still looks new and like the latest models.

I was right on my prediction of a few new wheel options.

There are some Internet articles that think the the lights and possibly the grille will be 'freshened'. These changes, if made, would not appear on an order sheet.

From the above posts it looks like the sport will have the option of a heated steering wheel as well as the automatic fold seats. Is there anything left the limited will have the option for that they have no included in the sport?

HID headlights, lane keeping system, auto high beams and rain sensing wipers to name a few.

In addition to those mentioned by alexk, the Limited also has Active Park Assist and more colour choices. I thought I read once that heated 2nd row seats were available but have not been able to find that when 'Building' an Explorer.
