It shares a platform but is heavily modified to function as a truck. The Santa Cruz is basically a Tucson with the rear cargo converted to a bed. Hince the limited bed payload capacity. I think Ford hit the target a lot better with how they developed the Maverick. Also, by the time tongue weight of a trailer is factored in there is likely little left to load into the bed of the Tucson. The Maverick can still take a decent load in the bed while towing.Was the Baja better than the Brat, I used to clean those up at a dealer in 1985-1988?
The Maverick is based on an existing platform, which should help the sales and the features of those common vehicles.
