I know the 3.0 duratec engine never came in explorers and just came in fusions and escapes but I was wondering if the bellhousing are the same. I need options what else bolts to an a4ld 4.0?

The A4LD has a removable bellhousing. If you're thinking about a motor swap, you're limited on what will clear the front axle housing. The duratec will be too wide to clear the body and you can't move it forward far enough. Look into a vw or kubota diesel swap. There's adapters available to retain the A4LD.

3.0 uses Completely different bellhousing
Remember the 4.0 is a cologne Germany design 60 degree v6 so our bellhousing is an odd shape

The a4ld 4r and 5r55e have a removable bellhousing, it has a gasket on it and each bolt has an o ring that are supposed to be replaced anytime the housing is removed. I can’t remember if you have to mess with r front pump…
I seem to recall it’s a little trickier then just unbolt one and bolt on the other…
It has been a while but yes you can change the bellhousing

95tm heads, 422 cam and headers.

C5 auto (c4 3 speed auto with a cologne v6 bellhousing)
A4ld
4r44e / 5r55e
Mazda m5od

Those are the only trans that bolt to a 4.0
The Mazda bellhousing does not unbolt the bh is part of the case

The early Mitsubishi and Toyo kogo 5 speeds from the old 2.8 and 2.9 rangers should never be used behind the 4.0 imo… they will Bolt up but they will not Hold up and they have the wrong gear ratios for a suv

The 700r4 Chevy trans can be made to bolt up with expensive adapters… not sure if those are still made

@410Fortune in another thread it was revealed after rebuilding the transmission, the engine blew a head gasket.

That happens all the time
New engine tranny goes
New tranny engine goes

How do I know? I’m the guy who comes and buys it at that point

Is it recommended, just just get the engine rebuilt. we love that van. Except for cruise control not working. It's comfortable, especially with the early interior we got in it. The thing is we don't have a lift or anything like that, to get the engine out of it.

How many miles are on the engine?

The bottom end is barely broken in. That end will easily go 500k miles. Just replace the heads.
