Hi all this looks like a great site. Glad to be aboard. Hopefully I can solve my problem with my ranger!

99 Ranger 3.0 problems

Well I've been outside all day tryin to figure out what's wrong. Idles rough, cuts out while under load, exhaust seems rich and sooty, a lot of vibrations. Some of it seems to be gone now that I cleaned out the idle air and mass air sensor(both were very dirty) although the idle seems to still be very rough. So in went new plugs, off came the exhaust to see if any restrictions. Throwing idle air and purge circuit malfunctions along with a misfire in cylinder #2. I thought maybe the phantom wiper thing maybe fried something? So I took the wiper switch apart and cleaned it accordingly to what I read elsewhere(claimed the wipers never went off by themselves again. Primary resistance on coil reads about 1 ohm. Secondary resistance reads about 12.75. That secondary seems high? Checking the mass air yields about 2volts on signal wire until it idles down then jumps to like 100something? What the heck? Drove it around for while cleaning the mass air helped a lot but still not runnin quite right. No MIL on yet either. Took negative cable off before driving it to so it cfould clear. Just can't figure it out. Anybody? Otherwise its goin to service dept.

Ranger still spittin

First off, thanks to BrooklynBay for putting my post in the right spot! Hard to navigate on this blackberry! Well drove it till past midnight last night, shut it off n started it many times but still has not set off any MIL. But Is running even worse! Startin to suspect the EEC-V. Unless I was probin wires wrong( I was tryin to use my mustang haynes manual). I guess ill try checkin the fuel injectors today. I only took out the O2 sensor when I checked the exhaust 4 restrictions(worked on my mustang-ford dealership here couldn't even figure that 1 out but then it wrapped up so quick I knew that was the problem!) I just wish I knew if I was checkin the coil right. Anybody out there havin this problem?

...Get your codes read...Even if you don't have a CEL on, you will be storing codes...;)

...A couple things I would check...FPR (fuel pressure regulator) and cats (I'm not sure if thats what you were checking in your exhaust..

Did you ever figure out what the problem was with your 3.0? I'm having a similar rough idle problem with my 99..

Well after months of just dealing with the rough idle since it didn't hurt performance, it started to spark knock. The only symptom it had was a rough idle and a small exhaust leak that took until yesterday to find (no check engine light). Turns out eh EGR tube has a hole/ crack in it. Idk if it is a defect in the part or just abuse cause it only has 86k on it and that tube is stainless. Well anyhow I ordered a new tube and hopefully that fixes the problems! ;)
