3rd gen vs. 4th gen race... so sad...

Actually a stock SRT10 regular cab Ram with a great driver will beat a stock Lightning if both can hook up. 01-04 lightnings would be a better comparison than 99-00 lightnings. But $1500 in the lighting will then smoke the SRT10 with the same amount invested. I know you can beat an SS if you build your motor, but I am referring to buying brand new. For the roughly the same price, you can get a 390HP SS vs a 292HP Explorer. To make the Ex run wih the SS, you have to spend at least 5 grand to even be close. For the extra money you spend on the Ex, you might as well have gotten an SRT8 Cherokee.

The SOHC headers are wonderful as stock parts. Don't waste $500 on headers that may add 5hp,

I agree 100% and I dont have not even touched my 02 SOHC yet, I just pay attention

SOHC headers = waste of $$$ unless your boosted and if your a boosted SOHC $$$ is not a concern anymore :)
 






i agree with all of that except...the SRT-10 ram will smoke a lightning stock for stock every day of the week...(THAT IS WHAT DODGE MADE IT TO DO!!)...my friend who now has the srt-8 used to run a pullied 04 lightning...till his block fragged(yes totaly fraged) at just over 100K...he was running just over 550 to the rear wheels for 4 years...daily driver. and having owned a WS6 Trans am(and to this day i think the sexiest car ever made is the last gen Trans am, Black with t-tops...despite it being a GM product)...i saw a vid on youtube where this guy did a centri charger in one...at 6psi...and he broke 450 horse power...with just exhaust and intake supporting mods.(for less than 10 grand his trans am kills ####ing MOTORCYCLES!!)...and by the way FORD CANCILED THIS YEARS LIGHTNING!!! GOOGLE THE 09 LIGHTNING CONCEPT!! THEY ARE EVEN SELLING THE RIMS THEY MADE FOR IT ON FORD RACING's WEBSITE!!!...i can believe they would be such morons...god...


ford needs to get with the program and at least OFFER the option of a perfromance motor(Like their hot rod crate motor that costs $6700 new!!)...its getting to be embarasing that my company cant compete with the others on ANY level of performance...i think who ever got put in charge of their performance vehicle program(or the lack of) should be found, flogged, tar'd & featherd....ford would rather let other companys do all the upgrading them selfs...like Saleen...and Steeda...and Rousch...than lift a finger and offer cars like that from the factory at prices people can afford...like chevy and dodge do, My friend got his srt-8 slightly used(old lady...it SCARED her so she traded it in for a decked out neon...wow right?) for just under 30K...but i love my explorer too much to just give up on her...so shes getting an bored and stroked short block(to 5.3 liters)...Ported heads Mild hi lift cams...and a couple of years after than a blower and an upgraded transmission to hold my 550 horse power monster...License plat will be...CVY KLR
 






09 lightning out 09 Raptor in!! I think its a good move, if I want fast I wont buy a truck.....
 






The raptor is going to cost around 60 grand...not awhole lot of people can afford that..and why dont they offer that new 6.0L V8 for the rest of their vehicle line?...what made the lightning awesome was how cheap it was...your average working american could afford to spend 33-38 grand on a pretty nice truck...no other company has made such a performing vehicle so affordable...so we ALL know its doable.

my mother in law has a Dodge SRT-10 viper truck, I got to drive it.... wowee sweetness

I like the 5.4L supercharged in the GT with the 6 speed transaxle, the lightning was a nice truck, but its a real truck... the viper truck is not simply a 1500 with a viper engine, its a viper truck
 






i those srt-10 rams are scary!!. im still going to be turning my X into a street truck though...i owe it the old girl.

Fords Raptor is getting a 6.2L. Rumored power is around 400HP 400TQ

SVT Raptor is REALLY sick

SVT Lightning is just a 2wd F150 flareside with a supercharged 5.4L. I know a guy who uses his lightning as his D/D and uses it to pull his Cobra; then proceeds to race them both at the strip :D.

imo, the supercharged Harley Davidson f150 was more impressive; 4wd, crew cab, Supercharger :D.
 






Close on the Harley, but it's not 4wd unless you mean the 08 that came out with the optional supercharger with 450hp. The new harley is slower than the older supercharged one. Any truck that run's low 14's or faster is fast. Plus the only truck worth going fast in is a Ford;)

YES the 5.4L supercharged in the Ford GT rear mounted with a 6 speed transaxle = SEXY 550HP factory, remove the supercharger, add two large turbos, retain the stock intercooler, injectors, and PCM program and 1100+ RWHP is made.....


the 351 Ford Lightning with a beam front end = PERFECT PRE RUNNER PLATFORM
the 5.4 version = decent pre runner platform

Get this the same mother in law with the Viper truck has a F-350 Harley 4x4 :) they are car nuts

I agree shadow, here in alaska a vehicle that doesnt have 4x4 or awd is almost worthless as a daily driver(dont know how my friend lasted with his lightning for so long)..my old landlord bought a brand new lightning in 04..sold in 6 months later because he couldnt stand to just have it sit...i got to ride in a Harly 150 awhile back...VERY nice...very nice indeed...

have you guys seen the Foose F150's rolling around? the one at my local ford dealer had 585 rwhp!! and the sickest body kit ive ever seen on a pick up...did 0-60 in less 4.5 seconds...scary stuff.

i would also like to apologize caldwell...we seem to have gotten VERY FAR off topic...go ahead and start with the tune, UDPs, and an E-fan..and see how you like it...or you could find a wrecked v8 explorer and do the swap ^.^...or one of the above mentioned motors...and totaly kill ur friends truck...as well as a mustang...tbss..srt-10 ram...srt-8 cherokee...comaro...challenger...probably a corvette...id be awesome!!
 






Indeed off topic, but still a fun topic none the less.

Of course Camaros were underrated.. I watched a C&D video on youtube of a guy introducing the (then) new 2000 camaro z28 and saying how it had the corvettes LS1 but dropped by 50hp... Then at the end of the video the camaro and the corvette are supposed to take off towards the camera and then off into the sunset and the camaro ends up almost a car-length ahead after a couple seconds.

I plan on getting a 1998 or 2000 Camaro Z28 and fixing it up like mad.

On the topic of lightnings:

My friend has a 5.4L 2000 F-150 with the towing package which makes it a lightning minus supercharger plus supercab and big bed. He is going to get a whipple 3.2L supercharger, lightnings intercooler and intake manifold.. The F250/lightnings tranny rebult.. and should be pulling no less than 700hp when all is said and done.. and this is his daily driver.. it has over 120k miles so he is rebuilding it and boring it out maybe 0.001 inches... oh and running something like 27lbs of boost for the track (maybe 14lbs for daily driving).

Fords good at making cars with tons of potential.. they just dont ever release that potential.. but a new era will come and ford will dominate!

SVT should start slapping their logo on everything from ford crown vics to F-350 superduty... (and sploders of course) limited production and reasonable prices mean that people WILL by and that it wont cost them too much.. I think.
 






i agree...ford should have an SVT option for all of their vehicles...like chevy and their SS badges that just get thrown on anthing and everything...i hope your friend is going to get a build short block to run 14 psi daily...and 27 psi? thats going to NEED a built motor...if he plans on it lasting more than a couple weeks...(my friends lightning lasted only 4 years at only 550 horse power at 11 psi...and racing only on weekends at the track.

And SVT explorer would need the Adrenaline front end...and Out the side duel exhaust...that would be the pinnacle of explorer bad assedness.

98-02 camaros/birds were underrated from the factory so they'd sell more vette's. From the factory people are dynoing at 345whp. Toss a crappy centri blower on it and you're over 400hp to the wheel....

You can build a 400rwhp stroker 302 for around $4000(longblock). What does an LS engine cost making the 345hp? That's a fair fight, they are both pushrod engines, even though the LS has aluminum block, forged crank, and in some, titanium rods. The LS does so well because of the high dollar OEM parts in it.

If Ford had built 400rwhp 96+ Mustangs with a 302 option, no one would have bought the 4.6 OHC engines. Ford is really bad at putting out a performance car. Below is a car dyno of a 332 in a 91 Mustang, T-5 trans.

You mean 331? Either way that's good power in a fox body. Also I am guessing that's supercharged because that torque starts off pretty strong and stays fairly flat. If it's N/A then that's one heck of a little motor. My Ex will someday read like that:)
