Looking for some input from the community.

I have just installed a K&N Cold Air Intake last night took the vehicle for a test drive and everything was fine. I wake up this morning and drive to work my 4x4 high and 4x4 low lights started flashing about 5-6 times then dissappeared. No codes stored in the vehicles control module so not really sure what the deal is.

Possible that a transmission fault is coincidence after replacing my intake? I did have to disconnect the battery prior to removing the MAF sensor.

Any thoughts would be helpful!

A CAI should have no bearing on the trans Im pretty sure. Also i thikn thats the transfer case, the trans would flash the OD OFF light

Looks like the same boat from here

Keep in mind that there is little to no benefit to a CAI on a 4L SOHC. Even if it's tuned, the exhaust is the restriction.

I imagine that you just disturbed some wires. Do 4 high and low still work? You do still have the MAF sensor, did not delete it?

I did do a muffler delete to free up some restriction, did leave the resonators so that it wasn't super raspy but I did do a muffler delete.

Honestly vehicle sounds sooo good, didn't think a little 4.0 SOHC could sound so aggressive and deep toned like a V8, I'm in love with it now just need to make sure my transfercase or transmission isn't on its way out or if something else is underlying.

4 High and 4 Low still engage so the motor is working properly, and yes the K&N kit utilizes the OE or Factory MAF sensor so no MAF delete.

The (single) rear pipe diameter will still be far more of a restriction than the stock intake.

I thought my SOHC sounded good too, when my muffler went out, but that got old after a few months.

Yeh I mean it was fine for just bombing around the city, I didn't think the CAI would change the sound so much it sounds very good now IMO. Obviously without a dyno Im not sure if their was any power gains but I work for a dealership and was able to get the kit for cheap so figured why not.

But definently sounds way better than it did previously.

Flashing 4wd lights points to an issue with the control trac on demand awd transfer case
It has nothing to do with your new air filter
The wires do not even go near the front of the vehicle and all fuses are on the other side

Expect it to happen more and more often… once they start to go
I would drain the transfer case fluid and have a look
The flashing lights usually indicate a speed sensor issue in the t case it is detecting slippage

Drain fluid, catch a small sample as it drains so you can have a close look at it. I use a small glass jar and wipe some fluid on a clean white rag so you can see what’s in there
Most high mile neglected transfer cares from 99 will have black fluid by now
I am not a fan of the control trac t cases

Any bits of white nylon suspended in the
Fluid or near the drain plug that is the first sign of them going south

Refill t case with 2.5-3 quarts of dexron/mercon iii or your t case fluid of choice
Hope this helps
