Stall the converter? Like hold the brake down and rev n launch? Isn't that very bad?

Also.. I just checked... hers is 6050 lbs, mine is 5580lbs..
I think your looking at the gross weight carrying capacity, Haus. Your truck is right around 4,400+ whatever weight you added to it. Make sure to catch her with a full tank, and run your empty.

This is just kind of Sad... My engine is bigger.... and I've got a couple mods... Yeah.. I know they're small... and I still have the stock exhaust manifolds... but come on..

How about this, I run a 1/4-1/2 tank, she runs full.. I also take my Spare off... turn OD off and uh.............................
Oh come on... this is ridiculous.. I know hers weighs more... it has to.. a little bit.. idk... arg

It's a freakin dodge durango.. =|

So you guys are saying it won't even be a close race, she'd win no matter what in a 1/4? or 1/2 mile?...

I honestly don't know.. all I know about her vehicle is..
It's the 4.7 Magnum V8
2WD
Completely Stock
30" Tires
It's the SXT Sport
You could probably consider it the base model.. it has none of those nice little features we all love/hate.
Fog Lights, Outside Temp Display/Compass, Running Boards, Fender Flares... Nothing.... It looks extremely basic....

In Comparison to..
Windsor 5.0L OHV V8
AWD
Mac Intake/Catback
31" Tires
XLT
Came with all the nice little features except the sun roof and 6 cd changer [does anyone actually use that thing?]

[Could anyone explain stalling the converter? What does it put stress on specifically? How far/How long can I safely do this?]

If you are going to be racing, I wouldn't worry about stalling the converter. Hold the brakes, press the gas to raise the rpms to around 2k, and then let off th ebrake, and stomp on the gas. You heating the trans fluid, and beating the converter a bit. You should only need to do it for a few seconds. You'll get her off the line, but she'll have a good chance of catching you. Her truck is only a little heavier, and she's got 40-50hp on you. There is no reason to drop the spare unless you have a flat, or it needs a shot of oil. ;)

DO NOT try to manually shift it. Just let it shift on it's own. Don't go past 2nd gear, by then you'll be moving at a pretty good clip anyway. And if you notice she's catching up by then just let off the gas and then make fun of her for doing a loser fly-by.

I thought stalling the converter meant holding the brake, revving and letting off and flooring it?

Also, I'd HAVE to manually shift, wouldn't I?.. If I start out in 2nd... I wouldn't make it off the line very fast..

Also.. about removing the spare.. it wouldn't hurt.. It's stock size anyways and I have 31's... so it's useless to me right now..

Leave it in drive, and loading the trans some with the throttle only helps a little.

Pick the spot you're going to race. (make sure it safe) and rub soap in her lane. She'll sit there spinning and you'll victorious.

So I start off in drive and right before it's about to shift.. I shift into 2nd on the gear selector thing?.......

Soap?... Heh.. If I wanted to play the spinning tires game with her.. We could have raced anytime during the winter..... I swear.. sometimes I thought she was just gonna push the damn thing off a bridge... One time she got stuck in her own driveway... I had to tow her out.. hahaha

Storlied - don't manually shift. put it in D and leave it.

Hold the brake pretty hard. Rev the engine until you feel the truck start to overpower the brakes. (do this in a few short seconds because you don't want to overheat / put extra load on the tranny) When you figure the RPM out that you can hold, just repeat but this time let of the brake and punch it. Go practice this a bit before racing.

Ofcourse, this will all be done on at the track, right?

When you get this down, get to your RPM quickly (With-in a second) while pressing on the brake even harder. Right about the time you're going to go, see if you can get just a few more RPM's built up by hitting the gas more and let her rip. You have to do this pretty fast. hope this makes sense cuss it's hard to explain.

Should I be doing this with OD on or off? I've noticed the truck has a bit more kick at higher RPM's [OD Off]

Someone had told me to think of OD as this,
OD on: Lower RPM's, saves more gas at a slight loss of performance from the Higher RPM's
OD Off: Higher RPM's, burns more gas.. But I get the performance of the Higher RPM's.. which my Intake/Catback are the most useful at??

???

Leave OD off, let it shift on its own, and just race already.

I'm just waiting on her.

Stock hers has more power, but those 6k and 5,880 pound numbers were how much you can tow. So stock you can tow more. these trucks were built for haulin stuff and haulin *****.... not haulin ass. If you want it to be fast you gotta build it to be fast.

My light mods should help bring my performance closer to hers than I was stock though.... I wish we had a dyno here...

Your also spinning larger tires, 2 cv shafts, a driveshaft, and a transfer case.

tires

Durango

i dont think you'll win due to your taller tires. all things equal, the taller the tire the worse the acceleration. if you still have them, switch back to the stock 235s and you'll have a chance

i think the durango rear is 3.92 vs your 3.73

i have 31" w/ 3.73 and the first thing i noticed was that loss to acceleration she drives like a 3.55 now

So does this come down to AWD power vs 2wd power in an SUV?..
