Any ideas why my 4L does not work? is there a trick to get it to come on? I put it in 4x4 than push the 4L. Or just push the 4L and nothing. doesnt even go in 4x4 mode. But wheels do lock when I put it in 4H. Any ideas?
its just the 4L that does not work
Thanks

You need to be in nueteral and completely stopped before activating 4 lo.

even on a auto? I belive I even tryed it in park but I will try out N

Engage 4x4 mode, once the 4x4 light comes on put the truck in N and engage 4lo.

wow that worked. Has some power in low. Thanks alot guys. I would have just thought that the button was broke. I am used to a stick shift for these thinghs

will it go in Low in 2WD if I do the same thing but not put it in 4WD?

No. Although that feature would be nice it isn't in the cards... Since 4L is geared so low it would tear the transmission apart if you accidentally engaged it while under speed.

What actually happens when you switch between 4-Hi and Low? When should 4-Low be used?

To shift from 2WD to 4x4:

To shift into 4x4, push the 4x4 button located on the instrument panel. This shift can be done at a stop or at speeds up to 55 MPH (88 km/h).

To shift from 4x4 to 2WD:

Push the 4x4 button; the 4x4 lamp on the instrument cluster will go out indicating the vehicle is in 2WD. This can be done at any speed. To disengage the automatic locking hubs, operate the vehicle in 2WD in the opposite direction for approx. 10 feet (3 meters) in a straight line.

To shift from 4x4 to 4x4 LOW RANGE:

Stop the vehicle and place the automatic transmission in NEUTRAL or depress the clutch on vehicles with a manual transmission. Push the LOW RANGE button on the instrument panel to shift the transfer case from 4x4 to 4x4 LOW RANGE. Both the 4x4 and LOW RANGE lights are now lit.

NOTE: The vehicle must already be in 4x4 before pushing the Low Range button.

To shift from 4x4 LOW RANGE to 4x4:

Stop the vehicle and place the automatic transmission into NEUTRAL or depress the clutch on vehicles with a manual transmission. Push the LOW RANGE button on the instrument panel to shift the transfer case from 4x4 LOW RANGE to 4x4.

From the 1994 Owner's Manual.

Aloha, Mark
