Well got the torque converter to seat finally. I pulled the tranny back about two inches and wiggled it while my help turned the crank. It just kinda fell together lol. Tightened it all down and no binding. I would have had it started today, but some idiot forgot the plug on the drivers side between the middle freeze plugs, so I get to yell at them tomorrow.

Well I got the plug in tonight, but now I've got another coolent leak somewhere around the thermostate what all up there could be the cause of it?

near the thermostat? Could be a hose, could be the oil cooler assembly (but thats more at the lower radiator hose) could be the thermostat housing didnt get seated properly? o ring or silicoln?

Do you have access to a coolant pressure tester?
The little hose on the V8 that goes from intake to water pump is known to fail often too

2nd on the thermostat slipping when you installed it-

Third on the thermostat slipping, I had it happen on mine when I installed it on mine too.

It's basically directly under the thermostate housing, so I'm assuming it slipped. I just wanted to make sure it couldn't be from under the intake or something else.

when I put the 5.0L in my BII i had a coolant puddle right there too, hose clamp was not 100% tight

I have never had a thermostat slip because I am really careful when I install the housing cover, never had a thermo housing leak before....just hoses or waterpump....

Well it's all up and running even though I was chasing coolent leaks like crazy lol. The first ended up being the thermostate I ended up using a piece of fishing line to hold it in from the front while I put it in. Then one of hoses into the heater didn't want to seal, then somehow I missed putting one of the clamps back where it was supposed to be on the oil cooler. Once I finally quite losing coolent she was great. I also drained the tranny as part of this, but didn't realize I had gotten 12 quarts out lol, so I had to make a fluid run part of the way through. The power differance is really amazing I guess the loss happened so slowly I didn't notice how bad it was.

Yeah, when you drain the tranny completely in the middle of an engine swap you don't realize just how much came out. I bought 2 cases of fluid when I was doing mine expecting to have a couple quarts left for my "stock." I put 8 or so in and checked it...then the nineth, checked it...then the tenth, checked it...Then you start looking for a puddle on the floor because you can't figure out where all the damn fluid is going. LOL

That's exactly what I was doing lol. Glad to know I'm not the only one that's done it.
