hey everybody I was wonderin what ya'll think about these 3 different wheels on a 97 explorer? should I get Eagle 589's, Mickey Thompson Classic II's, or some American Racing Baja's? I want to go with MT ClassicII's but I was wonder what kind of finish it is? Like is it polished, alloy, or stainless? thanks

The Classic II's have a polished finish. Of your three options I'd go with the Classic II's.

I second the MT Classic II's. Got them on my 98XLT with 31 BFG AT and I love them. The only problem to worry about is the backspacing when you order them. Nonetheless , Classic II's are higher quality and a sharper design...Good Luck and if you want any pictures of my rig with them let me know.

thanks

hell ya man, post those picks if u would. haven't seen many explorers with them yet. but does anybody have anything bad to say about the alloy finish on the 589's and baja's. I heard they get messed up and chipped real easy. I don't hardcore offroad much but a friend of mine has 15x8 and I really like the wider look so that might influence decision. thanks.

Nice lookin rig ya got there. Those are the rims I'm gonna get. I had the 589's on my old truck but they got some wierd stuff under the clear or something. A bunch of swirls and stuff that wouldn't go away.

Kinnish,
Are those 15x8's? Is your Ex at the factory heighth? Or do you have any type of lifts? And what did you mean about the back spacing?

My rig looks very similar to Kinnish's. I love my MT Classic II's. They are polished, so you do have to polish occasionally. they still look good, but they look so much better freshly polished. Thompson's Off Road did a test a month or so ago on wheels, the MT's were in there. The main problem is back spacing, they stick out pretty far. But for the price you can't beat them. Desert Rat had the cheapest when I bought mine. Ask for Brian he can hook you up.

Mine has the TT and Warriors, you will need at least an inch of lift. Height isn't the problem it is turning with the back spacing being so shallow.

AddKev - I agree 100% buddy. I currently have the TT and Shackles(not shown in pics) on my Ex and I still have some rubbing once in a while. The backspacing of the MT's is a problem, but I still love them to death. Go MT you won't be dissapointed!

FX4x4 what do u mean by stuff under the clear? are the circles and swirls noticable so they look ugly or what? anybody else know what this is? thanks

Yeah, I'm not sure what it was. I kept good care of the rims too. Some people said a little elbow grease and some polish would take care of it. It did a little but not much. Someone even said using a dremal with a polishing tip on it worked great. I ended up selling the rims and tires before I figured out what it was.

corrosion

I had this same prob. with a set of american racing wheels , the clear coat gets water or debris under it and starts to corrode it could even be salt.
