The thing most of you dont seem to realize is that I am a 17 year old kid who is only GUESSING at the horsepower numbers, I have NO CLUE as to what it could ever reach, and I did do the typo I wasnt paying attention and hit 63 instead of 73.

The reason I say AWD, is because one of of the little spec things somewhere I forget now) It says if I were to dyno it, ONLY do it on an AWD dyno. I have settings for 4WD Low, and 4WD high, but I know that when it is not in either setting, all 4 wheels will pull the SUV. When drifting/powersliding/being dumb(your choice) all 4 wheels will spin as I go around corners or hit the gas when turning hard they will spin, when I go mudding all 4 wheels throw up mud...specially when sitting still... It may, it may not be called AWD, I dont care, its what I call it.

Now for the question for the people that dont believe anything I can do... What all would I need to build an engine capable of attaining higher horsepower numbers? Pistons? rods? Anything? or all of the above.

As for all of the looks stuff, I want to get myself into some car shows around here, and to do that, you need some show. I have alot of the "show", and im trying to lean on the "go" now. I have a guy in a 5.0 mid eightys mustang who keeps challenging me to race him, I will as soon as I know my truck can atleast keep up, dosent have to win, cuz if an SUV can keep up with that, hes at a loss because of embarassment. (I offered an off road race, he refused lol)

This sounds cool! Do you have any progress pics?

.

No, sorry I dont, I live on the south end, and he lives on the north end of Spfd. Little too far to go everyday with an SUV, im only up there about 1ce a week if that, next time im there tho, im sure I could take some pics. Want them PMed or just added to the thread?

forged rods/crank, nice lightweight valvetrain, forged pistons, stronger heads. Get a megasquirt unit, they are cheap and you can tune your engine to your desire. Idk about the block either, if its like a 5.0 then you might make all this power but be driving a grenade, unless you could find a stronger block.

What in the world is a megasquirt?... lol

But I really dont need ALL the modifications, im just looking for the "street" version race kind of thing. Just faster than most cars on the road. I hit 0-60 in about(my fastest, friend timed it with a stopwatch) in 7.34sec. Not fast enough, I got another friend who drives a supercharged RSX, I just need something to keep up with the competition if you catch my drift...

(If you cant tell, I like to mod engine and body stuff, im slightly big in the tuner scene and can do alot they can in an SUV... I have almost perfected the SUV drift actually...I can do it better than some of these kids in their four-banger Hondas...The anti-roll stuff is great, 50 around a corner, tap the brake and smash the gas, you WILL lose traction in the rear, and with countersteering you CAN keep the slide going and you CAN correct it back. I have taken this out numerous times in parking lots, and started slowly till reaching this point, I push it, but this is as far as I will go. Im going for straightline acceleration and speed now, hopefully be able to take this to amature drag strips and smoke some people...)

Whichever... if you post them here then others can see too.

I'll race your Mustang buddy with my 3.8 V6 powered 1990 Thunderbird. :D

Get a friend to videotape you next time you try it, I have got to see this.

^--- I'm with the guy from Potomac Maryland.. we Marylanders tend to think alike :D

videos please kthxbye *twirls (blonde) hair*

I also would love to see that as well. To "keep up" with the competition sell the 6,000lb suv and buy a lil car. Escort, civic, focus, something that's less then half the weight. Even the supercharged Cobalts fly.

The most cost effective way for you to produce horsepower is to drive the Explorer into a garage...let it cool. Remove the radiator cap, push the truck out, and push a car in below the old radiator cap. Re-install the cap and viola!! Faster vehicle!:D

Oh god, here we go. The way he talks reminds me of the way my little brother talks about how he can beat anything in his 1999 diamante. I just roll my eyes and say "yeah, ok, yeah, gotcha, yeah"

:salute:

I dont think anyone even knows the limit on the engine block or crankshaft yet, Im pretty sure the stock rods would bend first then the pistons will crack if it doesnt detonate. If the entire engine is being rebuilt go with forged rods and pistons if they make them, add a supercharger(if they have a bolt on kit) and be happy with what you got, when you tinker too much you wont be able to just drive it, its just one thing after another that needs fixing(making custom parts etc), dont ask why:confused:

dont, you'll blow a head gasket and crack a ring land, if its auto you'll redline WOT shift into OD and burn the band, if its got the 5-speed Mazda trans you'll powershift and burn the old lining on the fiber blocker ring into 2nd, thats if the balancer doesnt snap off at the launch :D

Umm mines lowered about 3" with heavy duty sway bars, offset torsion bar keyways, cranked front torsion spring pressure, aftermarket rear leafs, Bilstein shocks, urethane bushings, limited slip 3:73s (in 2wd, rolled on a hill and hit a car the otehr day, oops :p) a roll bar and theres no way in hell Im going to try and power slide a truck known for rolling over:p:

I've never had any problems and I run it hard quite often. It may have had the head gaskets done before I bought it, but it would have been quite some time ago since the engine looks like it hasn't been apart for a while. MLS gaskets fix the head gasket problem, so I ain't skeerd. It does have the 5 speed manual, but I don't know what the fiber blocker is... sounds like something old people take. The transmission seems to shift fine, though. I'd still race him. Dollar for dollar, there aren't many cars faster than mine.

"there aren't many cars faster than mine." There are probably a few explorers on this site alone that are faster. I know of at least one of my buddies that would pass you as if you were standing still. I know a few other people that would probably whoop your car as well. Not raining on your parade but always remember there is always someone faster, always.
