in the first pic, if i am not wrong is your voltage regulator. in the second, is your ignition box. and in your third pic if i am not wrong is the turbo that no one can see! :D

wow, i haven't seen a stock radio in one of those, since 79!

oh yea, resubscribing.....just cause I'm a nice guy, and i think Jeff likes making me slobber all over myself! LOL

Pssst Look up ^^^^^^^^

would there happen to be any service manuals or anything that diagrams how the turbo and associated items are plumbed? it would be nice to match a "road-map" to the metal jellyfish. also a wiring schematic/diagram would be AMAZING!!!!
if not readily available, I have no problem purchasing one.

I'll have to do some digging, but I prolly have something.

Jeff - :navajo:

well this thread just got really official! my Grandpa's gonna sell me the car!!!

he still needs to decide on a price and then we'll figure it from there.

I AM SO STOKED!!! :D

I got it started to! I ran to Stuarts and got a battery and a solenoid. wired it up real quick, pulled the coil wire and cranked it over a bunch of times. plugged the coil back in and cranked it over. took a couple tries, but It started and ran! I only ran it like 20 seconds a couple times. the very next thing is to change the oil, empty clean and refill the gas tank, and see if I can't get it running for a while.

about that cool-down time after its been running, what are the parameters for that? How long it needs to run/how long it needs to idle before shut-off?

this is gonna be sweet!

super! i would have changed the oil before i started, but hey. when you get it running, come for a ride up to canada! want to see this thing! LOL!

funny however, i was thinking this last night. you have to come to a ford explorer forum to get advice for a 79 mustang!!!! HHAHA :D

Update:

I have the car on jackstands, wheels are in storage. I raked and swept the dirt away underneath the car. there was a good two inches of soil on top of the asphalt that had run down from the road over the years. I killed 3 more wasp nests. I took all the stuff out of the back of it. its starting to look like a car again! :p: I bought oil and filter. my Grandpa has a filter relocator at his shop somewhere. I hear those filters are a pita. I also got an air filter and I still need to get a fuel filter. once I get the remote filter kit, I'll change the oil and clean the fuel tank. I'm gonna dump it, rinse it with paint thinner, rinse it well with water, let it dry for a few days, rinse it once more with denatured alcohol and fill it up! After those two criteria are met, I still need to replace the vacuum resevior. it sits under the battery which leaked and now theres a bunch of cancer there. the connector for the resevoir got eated as did the passenger sife frame horn. oh well, its 30 years old, it had to have SOME kind of damage, right? after that, and new vacuum lines, I think I can fire it up for real! oh, and it still needs a thorough cleaning.

You'll probably have to rebuild the carb too.

That should be the evap emission's canister under the battery, black, square/rectangular.

Take a picture of it, I may have an extra one around here.

Jeff - :navajo:

is there a kit for rebuilding a carb? I'm WAY new to carburetors, only ever worked on FI cars. maybe I'll search for a book or manual on the or something. What brand/model carb is on my Stang?

I'm also unclear about the "cool down" period before I shut off the motor. How long is that, and how long does the motor need to run before I worry about it?

and just a sec on the pic of the broken part

oh and I've registered on the FEP forums. been askin' questions and doin' some heavy reading

I think monday or tuesday me and a friend are gonna pull that fuel tank, get it cleaned, and change the oil. after that, its gonna get a full detail. inside, outside, underneath. it will be IMMACULATE!! once I get the random box replaced and the cancer cleaned up, it should just need new brakes wheels and tires to be drivable!

this winter I'm going to pull the whole thing apart, body work, paint, the whole nine yards. until then, I can still have some fun with it in the shape its in now

In regards to that broken box, I think all I really need is the big rubber connector that the vacuum lines connected to. I'll also need to find some sort of diagram that'll show me what vac lines go where  Its time to invest in a Haynes manual

I need the tail pipe you have in this picture, next to the wheel on the ground, DO NOT THROW IT AWAY PLEASE SEND IT!!!!

i bid $10...:D lol, just joking jeff, i don't want to be band for life! LOL!

Lol, its in lousy shape, but its yours as soon as I have a copy made. I'm gonna go to my local exhaust shop and have the tailpaipe more or less duplicated.

I dropped the tank, its clean as new! put it back on, it got fresh fuel. I changed the oil, and got new air and fuel filters. started it up and ran it for a good ten mintues! it runs well, Idles low and smooth and doesn't ping at all with my foot into it. I haven't run it close to redline considering how long its been setting. even when its my DD I dont think i'm gonna run it that hard. :p:

talked with a guy on FEP about the evap. canister. I'm waiting on a replay but hopefully hes gonna send the rubber connector and mounting bracket in the mail.

Hey SVO, you said you might have that part right? I wouldn't mind a straight trade for the tailpipes? I could call the guy off for that trade! let me know whatcha think

now I'm waiting on money for brakes, interior repair, and wheels/tires. after that, a thorough wash, and the damage control on the fender, its good to drive I think.

Give me just a few, I do have one, I have to go retrieve an intercooler from upstairs and I'll grab that charcoal canister too, and get you a picture.

Give just a few min.

And HELLZ yes I'll trade you !!!!!!!!!!

Can you also get a better pic of the tailpipe?

Jeff - :navajo:

BTW, PM me a phone number, thanx

missed a few, and there will be more tomorrow.

Update:
I just replaced the alternator cuz I had a short-draw that killed my brand new battery  $36 got me a re-man
a friend and I also did some quick cleaning, and it turned out good! it still needs a LOT more. Once I get it cleaner, I'll get some good pics.
also found some factory 10-hole wheels with decent tires for $150! I'll be driving down to Lebanon tomorrow. I'm also gonna talk to my exhaust guy about the system on my car, plans and what-not. I'm also gonna see if I can't get replica Turbo twin tips fabbed for relatively inexpensive. I'm not sure if I'll chrome them though. I'm kinda cheap at the moment :p:

I can always so that later though. tomorrow should be fun!

oh, and it has a rough idle, so I'm gonna replace all 5 miles of vacuum lines soon. that should be fun. once I've done that and recieved that evap canister, I should have at least a decent idle

how hard is it to pull one of those gas tanks, and how long did it take? i should do mine. the fuel is only about 6 years old. also, for your own sake, your tank should be one of the ones with the fuel sending unit, and screen at the bottom of the tank (unless i am wrong and jeff corrects me :D) TRY not to damage it. i know i have looked all around for one of those (not lately mind you) and as far as i know, no one makes them. the only ones i could find where the ones with the sending unit on top.

Great to see you are taking some time on the rebuild. That is a sweet ride and I am kinda jealous :D ;)
