91 ford explorer sport EB edition

Hey Guys!

I registered awhile back but never posted cause I was mostly just looking up info for my GFs 91 explorer, shes been having lots of problems with it and even though I have kind of gotten running it still has alot of problems and she doesnt want to drive it anymore.

SO officially today she gave the explorer to me. It came to me while I was driving it around in our church parking lot and doing burn outs in it that... I LIKE IT! I called her up and told her it drives great, she told me "Fine then you can keep it"

SO BAM! I got an explorer sport! I'll probably pick up a Haynes manual and study it cover to cover and get everything in that baby up and running before i start modding it.

Eventually I want to turn it into a total off road vehicle. That is my ultimate goal. Its going to take alot of work on my part I just hope that I'm up to the challenege in all aspects of it.

Please let me know if you guys have any good advice or info for me. Also If you know where I can find an online service manual for my vehicle. I think for the most part before i make it offroad capable I want to turn it into a reliable moving machine first.

Any tips on modding her for fuel effciency are a plus.

I have never seen a sport eddie bauer.....pics!!! For that matter ive never seen a 2 door eddie bauer.

The 2 door non Sports, XL, XLTs and Eddie Bauers were very rare. Cool catch.

open 3:73's will do a burnout, my 3:55 open will too, not that I have ever tried, just squeal the tire now and then without trying. Not as easy now that I have 31's, tho.

I almost bought a blue, 91, 78,000, 4x4, eddie bauer 2 door owned by a little old lady, before I bought mine. Oh well...
They do exsist, but it definetly threw me off seeing one.

Ill see what I can do with pics, but yah I got the tire marks in the parking lot to prove the burn out.

The whole truck is pretty nasty, inside and out. I'm going to do alot of renovating, i wont even use the word detailing...its true renovation.

But for now a tune up and maybe replace a couple of hoses. Getting it reliable and driveable is my number 1 goal right now.

The saved weight of the Sport will make a burnout easier. But like it has been said, automatic ex's with stock engines dont have the grunt to burnout.

Locker makes it harder with having to spin both tires...

Stock 4.0 with 35s and a locker, dry. Not mine.

My stock 160,000 mile XLT will do them all day long if i lay it on the floor taking off. Of course the acceleration does leave something to be desired.

Welcome to the forum!

As to your question about an online manual, try searching this site, there are lots of posts about this.

From what I've seen here, your best bet is a set of Ford service manuals (paper), which you can usually find on ebay. There are electronic ones available, but they are considered inferior to the hard copies by the serious mechanics here.
