You can use Mustang mounts or you can buy L&L solid 5.0L mounts.
Your 4.0L mounts will not work, or you can make mounts.
You will need a dual sump oil pan from a Mustang style 5.0L in order to clear your engine cradle in a Gen I truck.
You will have to re-locate the oil filter because it comes off the 5.0L block directly into your steering box.
Fitting a radiator in front of the 5.0L requires some attention, but the 5.0L varies ALOT over the years, the Explorer 5.0L has the shortest timing cover and serpentine front dress of them all, so it gives you the most room for a fan and radiator.
Exhaust manifolds pose a big problem, you have MANY choices, some require notching the frame, some require expensive headers.
The heater box will have to be notched to clear the pass side valve cover and also exhaust manifolds.
transmission choice will have alot to do with how much modification your firewall needs to clear the bellhousing.
many of the 5.0L 5 speeds transmissions use a manual clutch with a clutch fork, your truck uses a hydraulic master cylinder on the brake pedal, so you have to figure this out
If you want to retain 4x4 you have to choose a transmission that will work with a transfer case, the transfer case must also fit between your frame rails.
I have seen it all, as I said, from 400HP carbed 5.0L's that are pushed back into the cab all the way to crown vic, chop and weld jobs done in a weekend, it is all up to you.
If you truly searched and looked around then you would have a good idea of the basics that are needed.
Conversions like this are NOT all the same, they are not easy, and they will require alot of $$$ and time, alot of frustration and alot of fabrication. I spent 6 months and almost $7K doing mine, the end result is similar to what would have rolled off the factory floor only it never did. I have seen people spend $20K on this conversion and take more then 2 years to get it all sorted out. Planning is KEY, and since it has been done before in every way possible, all the answers are there, really, if you just look hard enough.
Also there are 5.0L conversion manuals available.
Check out Duff and Advance Adapters (duff is a AA dealer)
I suggest:
5.0L from an explorer donor (because its already got 80% of the stuff you need to fit the 5.0L under your hood)
Canton billet oil filter adapter
L&L products engine mounts (require some welding to make them stronger, also can be drilled a bit to move the engine back 1/2-1")
BUILT c4 automatic if you can live with a 3 speed, or a AOD-E or 4r702 auto transmission, especially if you are going 4x4.
Torque Monster conversion headers, the other conversion headers on the market are not worth the time IMO, most of them are made for a Ranger chassis running a C4 transmission and 2wd, if you conversion is not going this route, their conversion headers will not fit.
As stated before the OHV 4.0L makes ALOT of torque for its size, using a crown vic, F-150, early stang, HO, non roller 5.0L, etc etc donor and not building it for power will leave you UNSATISFIED at the end of the day, meaning you can go through all this trouble and the truck will be SLOWER or the same speed and use more gas then it did with the V6. careful planning can avoid this....
