Okay I have a 96 ford explorer xlt 4.0 v6 ohv and I just did headgaskets on it. Now in attempt to run it I try to start it and it just cranks vroom! and doesn't start. I'm assuming a vaccum leak but I don't know I there isn't a lot of vaccum lines and I'm also considering the fuel inertia switch I'm gonna try and check that while I await a response. If anybody could give me some probable causes that'd be awesome I really don't know what to look for to much and I really need this baby back on road I been working on it for like a damn month!

In advance Thank you it's all greatly appreciated

John

just adding it's not the fuel inertia switch, the vehicle has fuel pressure because fuel squirts out of the release valve air filter is locked in and the air hose is nice and tight on the throttle body. Spark plugs are tight wires are snug on the plugs the coil side of the wires are secure with a click. I can't find anything I mean it must be losing air if its getting fuel I just don't know what to try next. I had to take my car apart twice during my head gasket project first time I did the head gasket put it back together all seemed well I started it up and it started up great, the problem was it was smoking and when I turned it off it billowed out of the compartment. Well I took it apart again replaced the gaskets with new ones and I found the egr was only half attached to the tube that goes into the upper intake , I'm pretty sure thats that. Anyways I put it back together again here I am today and it cranks vroom no start it happens in about 1 second flat. I don't get it just looking back trying to see what I didn't do this time that I did last time?

I should of made the title crank start stall because it starts just immediatly vroom followed by stall, this sucks any ideas probably wouldn't be spark? I'm really in between air/fuel as for air maybe something like lower intake, fuel rail, upper intake aren't seating properly or aren't torqued enough after all the aren't torqued to spec, my torque wrench didn't really want to click with those. I really doubt the cylinder heads I really took the time to torque them in sequence, stages, and angle the bolts. Air box is connected right sensors are all good. For fuel I know the fuel pump I can hear it gas cap area when key is turned, fuel squirts out the schrader valve, relays probably good it ain't burnt but ill grab somebody tommoro to help me listen to hear it clicking. Maybe a fuel injector isn't seated right maybe the fuel pressure regulator isn't seat right in the fuel rail. I don't know these are the things going through my head...

You do have the firing order correct right? Also was it running before you replaced the head gaskets? And you did replace all the upper and lower intake gaskets?

Yeah the spark wires are all going to the correct cylinders and it was running before I replaced the head gasket and I replaced the lower/upper intake gaskets along with the valve cover gaskets as well.

interesting statement, and a clue to what may be wrong.

when tightening a bolt and it goes in easy then tightens up suddenly as the parts mate, thats good.
when the bolt just sorta gets harder to turn for a while, thats bad. something is not going together straight, or something is in the way and is getting crushed.

Yeah pjtoledo I'm thinking my lower intake or valve covers maybe aren't in right or seating right I don't feel as confident in those as I do the fuel rail and upper intake I feel those are probably ok, but either way I'm checking them all so I guess I'll see. Thanks for posting and to jterry211 & turdle I appreciate it this truck will be the death of me I think I already spent more time working on it and fixing it then I spent driving it.

So I took everything apart besides the cylinder head today lower intake and up and made sure lower intake, fuel rail, upper intake seated fine bolts were nice and tight. fuel injecters seemed to be alright, all the sensors are in I checked several times except this one small gray wire plug that roots below and behind the blower motor housing that says BMC on it. Went to start the vehicle and same thing very frustrating : ( Hopefully I can find the problem, if not I'll have to get it towed to the shop.

Bump I wish I had a truck that works :(
