Interesting, from the charts I have found the 4.56 ratio is even a hair geared down from factory. At least from 3.73's and 31's to 35's.

Well my truck had 235/75-15 stock which are about 28-29 inches. And my truck did come with 3.73 but I have found some V8 ones at the junkyard with 4.10s. So 4.56 would be right for 3.73 and 4.88 would be right for 4.10. I wanted more power that is why I went 4.88.

I came up with 55 mph 2538 rpm in D with 3.73 and stock tires
55 mph 2646 rpm in D with 4.88 and 35s. I would love it if I could push the number a little closer to 3k but oh well.

I think with the 5.0 with 4.88 & 35's is a strong ratio. Like some have said the 5.13 pinion shaft is very small and with the power of the 5.0, I wouldn't push it. I run 4.56 and 35's, there is plenty of crawl power in low range, even with that ratio. A doubler/Atlas 2-4 would be better IMO to increase the crawl ratio over getting 5.13's in that D30. Heck I didn't even know you could fit a 5.13 ring in that Diff. LOL

Yup exactly what I figured. I forgot about stock tire size, my bad. Had 31's for 5 years so forgot.

31's are 7.26% bigger than 235/75/15R
4.10's are 9.9% Lower than 3.73's
35's are 21.1% Bigger than 235/75/15R
4.88's are 30.8% Lower than 3.73's
4.88's are 19.0% Lower than 4.10's

I made a huge paper full of calculations but all in all it means that:
Your truck with 35's and 4.88's is geared 8.02% Lower than a rig that originally had 235/75/15R (28.9 inches) and 3.73 gears.
Your truck with 35's and 4.88's is geared 1.83% Higher than a rig that originally had 235/75/15R (28.9 inches) and 4.10 gears.

And your truck with that ratio is geared down 15.8% more than mine with 31's and 3.73's like most run on the forum.

4.88's is about a perfect gear ratio for a truck that will have DD and freeway use and also be wheeled pretty hard! :D

Sorry to write a ton but crunching numbers is always fun! :) My wife always makes fun of me for always thinking of how fast everything is turning at every speed we go. She wont put numbers in a calculator, while we are driving to find the RPM's of various parts, anymore.

Sweet as long as I have more power I am happy. Now just need to get the speedo working right so the engine runs right. I put the Merc in 1st gear and low and it did good going down the shelf roads on Chinaman. I just left it in 4 low the whole trail. Most of time I was in 2nd or 3rd gear. Just nice having that torque compared to those straight 6s I am used to. The truck would hold itself on rocks with no throttle. It was awesome!!

Long overdue, but congrats on a successful project! I've been watching your build from a distance as time has been a luxury, and i applaud all the craftsmanship involved. Cheers on the 2nd SAS mounty in colorado :chug:

Thanks I love it. I have $4500 bucks in the whole build including buying the Merc. :D
How do you like your SAS setup off road?

Loading it on my trailer this morning. Got the Super Duty ready for the trip Yesterday. I almost cried when I filled the Super Duty up. $3.80 a gallon for diesel. :( Truck had a 1/4 tank and still 20 gallons cost over 70 bucks. Thank goodness it is under 400 miles to get there. So I will only have to fill the truck up one and half more times. LOL

Not sure yet. I am getting forced to get a shop so I might not have the funds for the trip.

In my Bill Lumbergh voice: Ummm, I'm gonna need you to go ahead come to Moab. So if you could be there around 9 that would be great, mmmk... oh oh! and I almost forgot ahh, I'm also gonna need you to go ahead and stay for Sunday too, kay. We ahh lost some people this week and ah, we sorta need to play catch up. :D

great build, looks like you did things right the first time. it sounds like you are pleased with the front springs on and off road?
