With code scanner check abs codes

Likey just a wheel speed sensor going out

98 has three speed sensors
One at each front wheel bearing
And a single one in the middle of the rear axle
Top of differential

Fluid leaking from an axle seal out back, check your axle vent tube first, if the vent gets plugged oil will push past the axle seals

Point taken, "check your axle vent tube". Will do in the morning ... wasps are a PIA this season plugging up things in my shop, if not dirt ... just may be those winged creatures.

Regarding sensors, we changed a rear on my son's 97 XLT in recent past. It has been several years since changing one of my 98. I suppose spray cleaning sensors up front may be smart, and it's simple enough to replace that rear one for sure.
