99 explorer doesn't run

i have a 99 explorer 4.0l ohv it ran fine but had a knock so i got another motor for it put it in but it doest start now. it has spark, the fuel pump comes on but it just cranks over and nothing happens. is there something im missing here any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Let me guess, used motor? Anyway, just because the fuel pump is running doesn't mean jack. You need to get into the line and see what pressure your getting into the rails. Did you reuse injectors? Double check everything you've done.

i dont have a gauge to check the pressure but i did press in the valve on the shrader valve and it shot fuel everywhere. everthing is plugged in and it is firing. what else could it be. it wouldnt fire if the cam position sensor was bad would it? i have check the obvious things but nothing else comes to mind. any other ideas?

Did you perform a compression test on it? Did you check the oil?
Did you get a warranty?

air/fuel/spark are the basics.

The more details you give us about your engine swap the better.
how long did the engine sit before you bought it?
What happened to your old engine?
auto or 5 speed trans?

this is a 99 explorer sport 4.0l ohv it ran fine when i pulled the motor, other than it started knocking and lost oil pressure.i got the motor from a friend who had in his explorer that got wrecked it also ran when he pulled the engine. it had sat for 2 years in his garage other than that this engine is good i know and also it only had 58,*** miles on it. it is a automatic

Did you put new plugs in it?
Do you have oil pressure?

Not enough fuel pressure might be the problem, you need to check the pressure at the rail

Will it fire if you spray starting fluid through the butterfly? (CAREFUL)

oil pressure good, plugs new, i dont have a gauge but it ran fine before, why would it be a pressure issue now? this thing was running fine a week ago before i pulled the knocking engine out. i havn't tried spraying starter fluid in it yet what will this tell me if i do it?

i held the excelerator 1/2 way down and it fired up and ran ruff for a min, then it cleaned up and it runs excellent now. thanks for the ideas though guys.

Good to hear, nice work.
An engine that has been sitting can take a bit to get going, getting fuel through the injectors, etc. Been there done that!
