So i bought the recharge kit from wal-mart today. I figured it would be pretty much stright forward. I read that the LOW SIDE on a 97 is on the passenger side, i also consulted my hanyes manual and seen that it is atop a round canaster type deal.. So i located the hose connection area. Ok i thought good to go....i proceeded with the hooking up of the hose.

Heres the problem, i went to attach the hose to the connection on the truck and it just wouldn't connect, i tried all different ways, pull it back and twisting, just twisting, just pushing... the damn thing would not go on for the life of me. I couldn't figure out why, i got it semi-tight but i still thought "theres no way thats on..." but i figured i'd try and see what it did......all in all i don't think it was connected.....

HOW THE HELL DOES THAT HOSE CONNECT TO THE NOZZLE ON THE TRUCK, aka LOW SIDE.

i'm reallly really mad about this right now.if anyone can help i'd be very greatful
thanks
ryan

It's a quick connect fitting. You have to pull the collar back on the recharge hose fitting, push it onto the fitting (should go on easily) then release the collar.

Your low side fitting does not have any exterior threading on it. If it has threads on it, your looking at the high side.

the threading i seen was on the fitting that came with the recharing kit. there was no threading on the low side fitting.
thats what confused me so much, why the threading on the fitting with the kit, but not on the lowside.

i'll get a picture of where i was trying to fit it on

Yep...

Mine are even labeled.

What BradE said...the recharge hose should have a metal collar on it; you must pull the collar up a little and place the hose onto the low side port; then release the collar and it should snap downwards...

I'm not being rude or nothing here, but I bought the same kit from Wal-Mart last weekend and no problems.

I think yours is a differrent year, and it sounds like you got a different kit. I got the retrofit kit, you bought a recharge kit, but it should the similar.

See above pictures. I'll try to help you if you post with more questions.

Did you put the new fittings that cam with the kit on the low and high side ports? If so it is just a quick-connect thing like on air hoses. Pull the collar back on the hose, slide over the fitting then relase the collar and it should be fine.

ok thats what i tried pulling it back and pushin it on...how far on does it push? Do you have to push with a bit of force...i was a bit scared of pushin too hard

My compressor wasn't working so i purchased a recharger can and hooked it up in the photo's above..Now my compressor goes on but off 10 seconds later and so on..Why wont it stay on..The air is still hot too..

You need to put more refridgerant into your system, but you do not want to overcharge it either. You will need to get a set of gauges that will read the R-134 refridgerant and also look up in a Haynes or Chilton's manual what the low side pressure should be. It will also give you the high side. Definately don't overcharge though, you could blow your seals and then you really have problems. Good luck

Did you take the valve cores out of the stock fitting? You need to take those out before you put the new adapter thingies on with those retrofit kits.

Just an idea.

Wbandyjr,

Put more referigent in. When I did my R134 retrofit kit thing I put in one can, and the compressor cycled every 10 seconds or so. I put the second can in not quite all of it and the a/c works great.

If your system was fully evacuated before hand, you are still probably low on refigerent.
