I have a proposal for the following from a local transmission rebuilder. $875 + my old trans as a core, for the following (per the email from the shop):

these transmission get a new torque converter, shift kit ,gaskets, any worn hubs, the valve body gets redrilled with a upgrade kit that improves the life as well as the performance. New modulater, they are assy by a by a
qualified ford tech; all the clutch packs are replaced.

The tranny comes with a 6 month, unlimited mileage warranty. I can have it installed by a local shop for $225, so I'm at about $1,100 + miscellaneous expenses.

It's in my '93, I'm really torn as to whether I should get this done, or sell it as is. It has 118k miles on it and I've owned it since new.

Anything I'm missing?

I can only imagine

that if a choice is to drive it like it is, it probably lost the overdrive. If the fluid is dark, you can keep changing the fluid and filter, probably get several more years without rebuilding. The price is decent and probably less than some people pay. Its a personal decision based on your circumstances.

There is one problem with doing it his way. If there is a problem, you are likely stuck with another take out charge. I was on one web site and they were very proud of a 1% failure rate of their torque converters. So does that mean that some ate 3-5%? You hate to be that one! All you can say is most times things work out.

wow......... 6 month warranty? Sounds like they aren't to sure of their work.

Actually the issue is that second gear has gone out...
