a4ld shifting

I just really hate to see a post with no replies, but I am by no means any kind of expert. Nevertheless, if I remember correctly (from reading somewhere), there is NO speed sensor in A4LD that tells it when to shift, but, instead, a throttle cable that may need adjusting.

Another thing to check is a modulator with a vacuum line. Pull the vacuum line and inspect for tx fluid. If fluid is present, then the diaphragm ruptured. Needs replaced.

And there is A LOT more information in the transmission forum: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=109 just search for A4LD 1-2 shift, you'll get tons.

This is, of course, after making sure the fluid level is ok, filter new, RIGHT kind of fluid (Mercon V).

There is a centrifical weight valve in the end of the transmission that can stick. This insures the vehicle is actually moving before it alows the shift Seems like you would have had this problem before. Removing the transmission may have stirred up some dirt or put the valve in a funny position. These get wear patterns on them and that causes sticking. It can be pulled out and the spool polished with some emery cloth. Maybe a few hits with a rubber hammer will do as much. It can be accessed by removing tailstock or 4WD. I know there are pictures here if you search.

Governor. Search it.

OK need to know what happened to resolve, also did a motor swap out but did not remove the tranny. No fluid at the vaccum line, fluid lvl good, throttle cable adjusted.
