so my first gen wasnt shifting unless i backked off the pedal then slowly accelerated. so i replaced my modulator thinking that would fix all my problems. well it didnt. it shifts better and smoother but i still have to backk off the pedal then slowly accelerate.

could it be a vaccume hose leak?
cant anyone help me? did anyone else have this problem?

Thats usually a sign of broken hardware.

so im pretty much gonna have to get a rebuilt transmission then huh?

I'm sure you did but have you checked your fluid levels? Mine has trouble shifting if thr fluid level gets low. The lucas oil stop leak has been a great buy for me and has bought me extra time to prepare financially for the rebuild.

i was looking at that the other day and was wondering how good it was. i guess im gonna go pick it up before i start work today. thanks.

but are there any websites that are legit when it comes to buying a rebuilt tranny?

You might try a local salvage yard and see if they have one already rebuilt or one that hasn't yet but is cheap enough for a donor or a rebuild and swap. As far as a website I don't know of any. I would ask around at your local parts stores and of course family and friends if they have anyone they have used before or that they trust. Hope the lucas stop leak helped.

Mine is doing the samething but mine is the valve body gasket in the transmission its not hard to replace it i just have not had time to do it the gasket is pretty cheap and could save you the money of a rebuild the worst thing could be that u take it off and it not be bad i would try that out before u rebulid just becareful the bolts u take out need to go back in the same hole they came out of good luck hope u get it fixed!

oh alright thanks for the advice ill try that out hopefully it works cuz im dreading the fact of spend money on a rebuild

this has been asked in many threads and no one has come up with an answer.mine will not shift unless you let of the gas.mine is all brand new though,i think its a sticky valve or pressure problem somewhere in it

ps you try and shift manually wile under full throttle

Governor could be jammed. Did you replace yours when you rebuilt jd? A normal symptom is that it doesn't like shifting when cold, then it gets worse and you have to let off the gas all the time after a while. I ended up replacing the stalk, the valve and the weight. There was also a little return spring that came with one of the valve body kits I installed (as per Glacier's thread) when trying to fix my shifting problem. Thing works like a top now...

Yea its new.plus thought that was a more of a 1st to 2nd shift problems, mine does it in every gear all the time

Weird... rebuilt VB?

Yep with a shift kit.i think its a stuck valve or torn gasket.idk not a big problem for me,i shift manually when i go wot;)

The gov is a 1-2 shift issue. Let me do a little research. Seems strange you are having that issue with all shifts. The 3-4 is electric.

What about you OP? Just 1-2 or different?

Did you torque your VB bolts properly jd? You didn't just tighten them with a ratchet and call it good or something similar. Let me list the possible causes shown in the ATSG manual:
- Improper fluid level
- Manual linkage misadjusted or damaged
- Governor sticking
- Main control pressure too high
- Valve body bolts too loose/tight
- Valve body dirty/sticking valves
- Vacuum leak to diaphragm unit
- Vacuum diaphragm bent, sticking, leaks

I would have been shocked if you hadn't used a torque wrench... you are probably right. As long as you don't mind shifting yourself. Get back to work on that blower!
