If you've seen the Air intake-from where? thread-- the other day I went out to the sixth (skipped 5 for now) area on the passenger side of the grill and bored a 1/2" hole in it. Made performance a touch better. Drove around in the rain (not a terrible downpour) for about an hour today and checked that area with a flashlight soon as I got back. A few small drops were on the chamber bottom behind the holes but nothing to be concerned with. Observed that most water had run from the bottom of the holes down the inside wall of the grill and must have drained out through the openings down there (the place where the factory was letting the air in from the outside) I guess. I really like Sgt1411's mod posted on Aug. 10, 2014. That's true ram-air and the box must have a positive pressure when you reach a certain speed. But, I'm still worried about too much water so, I'm holding off for now. I'm still thinking though, and if I can look through my 76 year old collection of junk or find a piece of plastic, or something at any of the stores for anything that I can cut and modify to make a flip-down cover for that area that would keep most water from getting into the intake port when flipped down, I'll fabricate the cover first, find some flip down swivels off of who knows what and after putting that in place and making sure it works--I'll saw that area out like Sarge did. As an aside, after looking at the Airaid box 402-260, I only had one question and that was, "why didn't they just put a lid on the box so that the only air that got in was from the stock cold air intake?" And, my research probably has the answer--and that was the fact that they knew that without modifying the grill area to let more cold air in, nothing was going to happen. But, hopefully when the vehicle was up to speed, there would be "other" air that could be brought in. Of course, that "other" air was under the hood hot air. And, most owners get a little apprehensive when it comes to cutting up their vehicle like slicing out or drilling the grill or anything that they fear may/could be/might be a warrantee or trade-in problem--so, I understand.. It may take me the next year or so to build that flip down lid--but, I'll do it as time allows. That's it for now.
