Another OHV M90 build

What about the 4 bolts that bolt the trans to the motor? What are they called again?

Im glad you guys are excited. Im a bit stressed over the whole thing.

I think a lot of my stress comes from timing the cam to the crank, then making sure I get that silly sensor on the back of the motor timed properly before install.

Think there is 6 that bolt trans to motor or you talking about the four nuts that bolt the tq to flywheel.either way they are fine.rod bolts, head bolts and crankshaft pulley are the only tty bolts in the motor and cant be reused.

Thx, I thought I had read they need to be replaced. I'll cross that one off the list of required parts.

I am excited!!hahah don't worry man it will go smooth once you get it pulled and all the parts in.and you know we are all here for any problems that may come up;)

think your talking about the nuts that hold the torque converter to the flywheel.they seem to strip pretty easy but they arnt any kind of special nuts, you could pick them up anywhere.

OK,
Tim's going to help me also, but I do want to have all the parts we need, and do as much of the work I can myself so I'm not wasting his time.
He's replaced a few of these motors so he knows exactly what needs to be pulled apart.

When I do the cam timing chain, is it possible to make it 180 degree's out? When I did my heads and cam, I didn't have to worry about it as I just pulled the old one out with the timing marks aligned, and then installed the new cam without rotating the crank shaft.

yes, deff get a new crank bolt. i have the part number in my 4.0 build thread if you need it.
theres 6 bolts that hold the flywheel to the crank, 4 nuts that hold the torque converter to the flywheel, and 8 bolts that hold the engine to the trans. thats everything engine to trans related you could be talking about, none of those need to be replaced.
except if you end up like me, i only had 2 of the 4 nuts holding the tc to the flywheel lol -_-

As long as #1 is tdc,i would find it hard to mess up.the sensor on the other hand is a whole different case, that can be installed 180* out.

I believe his trans to motor uses two less bolts,i believe.but yea they are all fine to reuse.

OK, so not TDC on compression stroke, just TDC?

Which stroke is dictated by the cam, which won't be in it.tdc #1 and align the marks and that will set it.the sensor is totally different, ive never set one personally.

Excellent!
The sensor I have down.
Once the heads and rockers are on, just hold finger over spark plug hole until you feel compression.
Then keep turning the motor clockwise till the timing marks (Either on gears, or harmonic balancer) hit TDC.
Then use the tool when inserting the cam sensor.

I'm pretty sure I wont have an issue. I just wanted to be sure I couldn't install the cam 180 degrees out. I know I'm over thinking this.

yup. told don i would help him taking the motor out, and putting the new one in. besides, i have been waiting for a excuse to buy a set of cutting torches. that and i have some new sawzall blades, and hammers i have been meaning to try! :D
dont get stressed don. we can handle all of it. i would as the machine shop to drop the crank and pistons in. that way they can deal with the clearances. cam, heads, and what not we can do. its not as bad as you think

Hey do me a favor and check which way the oil holes in the rods face in the block.cant remember but think they face inwards of the block.don't think it really matters but cant remember off top of my head.

we'll find that out this weekend :)

Yea but remember we went on what someone said they thought.i would like to know for 100% what way they come out a un touched block.

oops, I took all the pieces to the machine shop.
i havn't heard from them yet.

No biggie .if you can remember when you tear your motor apart, love to know a answer.found where that guy told me and it says point them outward.i don't think it matters at all.if you install them make sure to run a mini pipe brush thro them.don't want them clogged .ill check to see how we did xeeks this weekend when we tear his down, pretty sure i went with whatever that guy told me.i cant find a spec for it any where.

thanks for the tip on the pipe cleaner. ****, Im already missing things.
