OK gang. Anyone know anything about the auto door lock systems. My 2000 locks the doors every time I put it in drive and let off the brake. This is getting quite annoying. It seems to be tied into the brake pedal some how, but I'll be damd if I can figure out where and once I do figure it out am I going to damage or cause any other problems by disconnecting this. Any and all help appreciated.
Thanks

Forgive me..........don't mean to sound like a smart a$$..........but, isn't that the way it's SUPPOSE TO work?? Annoying FORD engineers, and all that.

I guess, IF someone here has disconnected it before, it would be of a great help, or you could ask the FORD DEALERSHIP.

Aloha, Mark

You don't even need to know the code. There's another sequence you can perform using the ignition switch and the door lock switch. Again, that procedure is in teh manual too.

And, for the record, that's a convenience feature that some people (including myself) would prefer not to utilize. It's the first thing I've deactivated on every new Ford I've ever owned. I HATE it!! Maybe it's just the control freak in me, but I want the doors locked when I say they should be locked and not before.

I’ve had same problem, tried few times and it didn’t work, finally found post by Howard and tried one, and it did worked, now I’m having peace of mind, details below:

1. Turn the ignition on.
2. Press the door unlock button 3 times.
3. Turn the ignition off.
4. Press the door unlock button 3 times.
5. Turn the ignition on; the horn will sound.
6. Press the unlock button, then press the lock button. The horn will sound once if the autolock system has been deactivated or twice (one short, one long) if the system has been activated.
7. Turn the ignition off. The horn will sound once to confirm the procedure is complete.

Don’t worry if it wouldn’t work first time, try again, anyway it did worked for me. Hope it will works for you as well,

and this is what you need to do if you know 5 digit entry code, it is easier and quicker as well,

make sure the ignition is OFF and all vehicle doors and liftgate window are closed

1. Enter the 5 digit entry code.
2. Press and release the 3/4 control
while holding the 7/8 control.
3. Release the 7/8 control.
The horn will chirp once if autolock
was deactivated or twice (one short
and one long chirp) if autolock was
activated.

will this work on all models? Mine is a 99 XL. No creatue comforts in this model. A/C, PDL, PM, and PW is where the luxury stops for me. :(

i think you can give it a try, i don't think you'll damage anything

I'm another person who's disabled it. It is especially annoying while wheeling. Getting into a situation where you get out and need a strap fast, and you have to go back to the drivers side door and unlook the rest of them.

On my Focus I can't disable it though. :(

good point, maybe I'll leave it alone. ;)

Sure you can! What year?

edit: Nevermind... missed the '01 in the signature LOL!! I have the procedure for the '02, but can't find one for the '01.... :( Still searching...

edit#2: As best I can figure, your doors on the '01 Focus should lock and unlock anytime the door lock lever is moved on either of the front doors (but definately on the driver's door). So, when you stop, park, and pull the driver's door lever, it should unlock the driver's door as well as the other three. The Ex's just leave them locked, and that's the annoyance. As far as I can tell, yours shouldn;'t lock when you drive off either, unless you manually flip the lock lever on your door.

That's sort of the same reason, why I hate the "one touch" elec. window motor switch (driver's side). When, I want it to go down only partially and not all the way down, with "one touch" of the switch.

I'm with you there too... My Explorer is the only one I've had that does that... all the rest of the Fords I've driven have a double-detent on the down button... the first click works normally like any other window switch allowing you to crack it, the second click is the one-touch-down click.

I wonder why they did that? Annoys the daylights out of me too...

Not to mention the FORD Engineer who made the auto transmission w/o a dip stick (place to check and replace fluid).

No wonder FORD is in trouble.

Thanks every one for all the good info. I don't have the manual thats why I asked. Will try the info you all gave me and go from there.
Thanks again

Ok. The codes trick worked!!!! Thanks again to everyone for there help ans advise.

I personally like the auto lock. I have 2 young children and they can't pull up on the button to unlock the door, by having this feature turned on I don't have to enable the child locks. I am a Realtor by trade and remove the car seats to show property, it gets a little embarasing to have to open the door for a client because I forgot to unlock the child lock.

I wouldn't mind the auto locks so much if they would just auto UNlock all the doors when you put it in park or something.

The newer third-gens auto-unlock them. Our pool car at work is an '05 Mountaineer.... it's a nice feature. :)
