AWD Question

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this but here go's...
I am wondering if there is any way to DISABLE THE AWD SAFELY. I have seen a few posts about trucks rolling of the front is disconected. Is there any other way. It would be on a 98 XLT with 5.0.

No way to disable the full time AWD without changing the transmission output shaft and tail housing to 2wd version.

not to be nosey.. just wondering why you wouldnt want AWD. the AWD explorers are GREAT all weather vehicles.

I'd like to get rid of mine too. I love the 5.0, love the truck, etc but I don't need AWD. It snows once a year here.

it might not snow like it use to hear in wv.. but i like the awd in the rain as well as the snow. great handling, no hydroplaning, i can creep up icy/snowy hills. just awesome.

I don't know if the AWD helps w/ hydroplaning. I did notice this truck is amazing at HWY speeds in heavy rain but I'd think that would be 99% tires.

even with crappy tires the awd drove considerably better in heavy rains than my selectable 4wd explorer.
