I would source a bumper from down south and have it Greyhounded up here. Just about any painted bumper you find up here will be rusting from salt splash...

Thats a damn good idea, I never thought of it. I have no clue how to use GreyHound though, is it expensive?

Cool, thanks guys! Ill be looking into that.

I just wonder if anyone from CL down there would be willing. People are generally extremely against shipping for some reason.

So thanks to Joe, I found this AMAZING stuff!

I have never figured out for the life of me how to get those damn rust streaks off the back glass from the "studs" (Whatever you call them.)

I have tried probably 20+ cleaners/liquids and had ZERO results.
This stuff works amazingly!

Before: (This wasnt the best pic but it was cold as chit outside)

That was only a minute of scrubbing, if that. Im gonna go out there with some Q-Tips tomorrow and really get into detail with it.

After that, I started thinking...

your rocker is rusted too?

damn son big money there unless you can do it yourself

Nope, bottom of the door, im gonna tear ass into the rockers this Summer; I HATE running boards.

If the door is affected, the rocker will be also.

I suggest that you buy something to stop the rust now, not a fix or a solution, but the first step. Skip the quick fix rust magic stuff you see at parts stores. Those cannot touch rust in seams, which is where all of your rust began.

Go to Eastwood, find the Rust Dissolver, and buy a quart or a gallon. That is the best product to stop rust in seams, it flows exactly like water. You put it in a spray bottle, and spray it on, into any rusted seam you can find.

It isn't magic, rust removal is the hardest thing to do. Ideally as much of the rust should be ground or sanded away as possible. But in seams that cannot be done, so a thin viscosity product is the only chance to stop rust.

I used that product from Eastwood, when it was called Oxysolv, as my first step on rust. It can be painted over directly(wipe it dry like a final prep). I followed it with Rust Encapsulator, which is better than POR 15.

What stores would carry something like that? Im more than willing todo anything to help stop the rust, I just dont wanna tear into the rockers while its still winter, cold, and salty.

(The rust stuff I bought was for the back window, but that stain on my running board was hiddeous too, so I figured why not)

Eastwood is the easiest place to buy their products, and the shipping is very quick. eBay usually has the most popular stuff too.

You should reconsider removing the running boards, unless you are okay with the flares staying and shaped the way they are at the running boards. There are a ton of holes to mount all of those parts.

The 96-98 fender flares don't integrate with the running boards, but I can't say if the holes in the fenders are in exactly the same places. If they were, I'd swap the older flares on, which I like the shape of better anyway.

Shoot, I remember you (Or someone) telling me about the flares. Ill look more into it, becuase I really just dont care for the look of running boards, they have "Edlerly" written all over them, and I NEVER use them.

Im gonna check Eastwood right now on that rust solution.

I've been without the running boards on my 99 Limited since I rebuilt it. But I prefer the running boards, it's much easier on the seats and door sills to step on the running boards to get in.

You will like the Eastwood products, just only buy what you do need. I'll bet you need a gallon for that truck, it sprays on full strength but do it lightly. It's good stuff.

I just step right in most of the time, not on the sill. Im a taller guy so maybe that helps.

Do you have any full size pics of yours? What did you do about the flares?

I honestly just had not gotten around to finish putting the front flares(drill holes), and running boards back on. This is the only picture since almost being done(2007), with my Mounty's 18" wheels(30" tires - same height as Limited 255/70/16 30" tires). I've been using 29.5" tires at 245/70/16 on the Limited wheels since then. I'm 6'2", so I step into it also, but just grazing the sill with my foot and the fragile 1993 Limited seat side piece. I had to repair both side pieces in 2000 when the body shop guy I had fix it the first time(as a 93 Limited), he/they/somebody busted them.

So that Ex had the same running boards/flares like mine does?

I cant even tell in the front that there ever was flares...

I haven't drilled the holes in it yet. This truck I bought as a wreck, and used my 93 Limited rear clip to repair, with other fenders and hood etc.

I thought I had referred to my build thread before. This is the original wreck, and the front clip from it which I rebuilt the truck around.
