Beat by a Neon

OK, so I was driving home tonight and there was a guy in a neon going like 50 to a red light, he didn't realize so he then slammed on his breaks. He did managed to stop. Then as the light turns green he starts to go. So I start to go. Little by little we're going, and going, and going, the next thing I know im going 80 and im ahead of him. Then all of a sudden, the little ******* starts to pull ahead of me. I HATE OHV's... lol if I only had like 20 more MPH to play with his ass would have been mine!!
This is embarrassing, beaten by a NEON!!!! I think im going to hold the exterior mods and get my X running a little faster!!! lol

Any suggestions, other then a blower and NO2???


PS. I don't want to hear how:
A. I have a truck
B. Shouldn't be racing on the street
C. If I want to go fast get a stang or something!
So if your going to say that, save it

It is a very simple solution. Sounds like you kept up with him pretty good off the start so you are able to still see him.

Spend your money on a lift and BIG TIRES, then when he stops at the next light you can drive over him and he won't be going fast anymore. Then the next time you see him you should be able to beat him....

Sounds pretty simple to me......

The OHV isn't made for racing. It's designed for stump-pulling torque. It doesn't really take well to mods at all short of a blower or nitrous.

I think a 5.0 swap is in order....

hey dont feel bad. I have a "killed by" list and I have a v8! my list includes embarassing things like expeditions, suburbans, mid 80s cron vics, neons, saturns, an old lady in a caddy and even a GEO METRO!

about a year ago I would have suggested dual exhaust and a kkm, but thse didn't help me at ALL so.. I dunno what ta tell ya man, HP aint cheap not cheap enough for me anyway

street racing is bad.. really though... get some 35s on that beast with a chip and 4.88s and youll be able to beat him and crush him.... there is no way he will out accelerate 4.88s

my beat by list is big...

however there is one win that im particularly proud of. some guy was test driving a Hundai (sp?) Tiburon. it was one of those special edition race tiburons too. it had the paint and the stickers and looked all spiffy, then he got his ass kicked by an explorer on the way back to the dealership... mhuahuahuhau.... im pretty sure he didnt take it after losing to me

also, another thing im sorta proud of, a buddy of my dad's has a 9x Suburban, which he threw away the 350, and but in a 383 Stroker. i got next to him at a light one time, and we dragged for a mile or so, surprisingly enough i was able to keep up, mind you i was in no shape to even consider passing and if i would have tried i probably would have failed miserably, but the fact i could keep up with him was good enough for me.

as far as beefing up ur x, i dunno, i have the sohc, which from what ive heard has monster torque, maybe that's why i could keep up with the stroker or beat the tuburon, i dunno, all i have done to mine is exhaust and a K&N FIPK.

Chucky, if ya wanna make it faster it's gonna cost ya. Blower if ya want good all time power. NO2 if you want a cheap boost for times like that. With all those you really gotta do ITHE and chip it too to make all the mods work to their fullest extent. Good luck!

seriously here is your answer. go to a yard and find a mustang rip its heart out, put a cam, set of heads, intake and exhaust on it then transplant it in your x.beef up your tranny and put some 4.10s in there and get ready to rock and roll. by the way i have a 5.0 stang motor for sale, lol had to tell you!

and jason_25, hit the nail on the head, they may be slow.. but they look a ton better sitting still than any ricer moving or otherwise

Add to the "slug" issue, they don't handle too good either...not enough hosepower to get the a$$ end to come around.....and the live axle likes to tap dance on anything other than glass-smooth surfaces. (that's after many syspension mods - but a least it does not want to "tip over" anymore).

It still looks good though.

Get a catback exhaust and one of Ben Jenkins' intakes. That's what I have and I noticed a HUGE improvement. If you wanna check it out, I can give you a ride in my truck sometime.

we do have mustangs... basically. What makes me wonder, is that fact that there are people on here with the same trucks and some say it is dog slow while some say they are fast. I think my truck is pretty fast without the blower or NOS spray. I have beaten so many ricers around town and a few cobra's (ok, so I used a little juicy-juice with the cobras) but all in all, she's got some umph! Even when people get in and sit down; when I floor it she'll put your ass in your seat without a doubt. Why do you all think that there is such a huge difference between trucks even with the same mods?

What is the jenkins thing?? Is that the chrome intake tubing?

hey i just went to some NHRA drag races and they had some neons there doing 1/4 mile in the high 6s at about 200 mph. Of course they had a V8, superchargers and the work and looked nothing like a neon but you know whatever. That neon is ok to get beat by though

Yea its the intake tube, I didn't think it was going to make that much of a difference but it definitly did. If you guys want to meet up at Bald Hill any tuesday night thats cool with me cuz I'll be there if not then let me know. On a good night Bald Hill is definitly worth the trip, there can be close to 2000 cars there when it's good.
