Is Bellmore the train station? I'll go just let me know when, I work wednesday. friday, saturday and sunday nights. I can go afterwards but I don't get out until about 11 usually. Let me know what's goin on.
intake made a diff. for you? well, a lot of people say it does.. but nothing I do has made a difference. lowdpypes, from what I've heard (it may have even been from you, dont remmeber) they changed a lot of things bet. the 97 and 98 v8s.. so.. I guess my v8 is sort of a lemon or something, while yers apparetnly isnt. I can pull up on virtually anything.. and I can GUARANTEE I would lose to 90% of anything I pulled up to.. a stock civic would probalbly smoke me by a car length or more.
we do SORTA have stang engines.. only a truck cam, and about 1800 pounds (estimate) more than they do. but ya gotta take transmission and rearend also in consideration there. As far as I know v8 owners share the same transmission as the v8 F-150s.. a transmission designed for the 5.4L triton btw, not the 5.0L. on top of that, we have a rearend designed for low end torque for pulling instead of acceleration, unfortunatley it seems all this adds up to little street performance w/o severe modifications
well no wonder.. thats all your power right there.. I have like a 3.10.. if that.. open, not that I need an LSD, I couldn't spin tires in grease.
rearend work is WAY too expensive for the little bit of perf. that it gives you, I dont have $2000 to change out gears in my daily driver just so it will ltake off alittle faster heh, theres got to be something more practical than that.
Keep in mind that some of those neons are ACR neons.. basically it is a factory built race car and there are tons of performance parts for them.
there are super chargers, turbos, cams, NOS and all kinds of other go fast stuff
Also, most neons are only 2500lbs.. with a zippy 4 cyl engine.. they will beat an X which is over 4000lbs with a torque 6cyl (even the sohc 4.0l isn't the peppiest).. (of course you can always make an X really quick.. like Trolls)
We have a 1995 Neon Highline with a 5 speed and in stock form it can do the quarter in about 17 seconds..
Here are a few track times for some neons.. If you spend enough money you can get them into the 10's..

you said you were still ahead of him when you passed 80 MPH. so you probably beat him in the 1/4 mile....
eventually a vehicle with a higher gear ratio will pass you at higher speeds.
I guess I need to correct my statement about the gearing.. I checked mine last night by the axle code on the door.. apparently.. I too have a 3:73 LSD rearend.. funny.. I guess that ISN'T a really good power source.. cos it aint helpin me a bit.
well with an auto tranny you can safely use 4.10 or 4.11s without sacrificing to much top end nor gas mileage...... but you will see a difference in acceleration. and it should not cost you nowhere near $2000.... nor even a $1000, unless you are equating for both axles. then possibly $1000 at the most or you can order everything from summit and it will cost you like $700 at the most and you can do it yourself! its fairly simple to do. you just need to order the gears and the gear install kit and follow the directions!
replace gears yourself? man, if you do your own diff work, you'd better know how to make it fit right. I'm about to have the rearend of my resto. truck rebuilt, I have a set of 3.73 gears already that I was gonna put in there, but the guy whos gonna do it said he would only use new gears, cos any other gear would whine, he also said theres a good change that even new gears in a used housing would whine.
well you may have beat that neon in the 1/4 mile, but for 2003 there will be turbo neons. for the first year or two they will be 200hp, but i think by 2006 they will be upgraded (and they will have the new body style).
