Best 3" Drop Shock?

I have done many searches and still cannot seem to get a conclusive answer! Looks as though there is a general concensus on Ranger Drop shocks, but I am more curious about the year I could use. A few say you have to mount upside down and others say you cannot mount nitro shocks upside down? I am not worried about rear because it has low mileage Rancho 5000's and the drop blocks don't move the shock mount, they move the axle. I am needing to order this week because me & the Xploder will be going on roadtrip for the 4th. Wheel & tire combo is a bit agressive and will want something that can handle some mild "driving" on the country backroads.

explorer express sells a drop shock with the X-Spec suspension--Its the Edelbrock IAS Performer shock. It should work well with a 3" drop. .
